Location: New Jersey Rep Power: 7 ![]() | CallPilot Desktop Messaging I have a 703t call pilot system and I want to setup Desktop Messaging. I need to talk to the IT guys about sending messages to Outlook. I need some documentation to build a case as to were the messages are stored. I am look at the Desktop Messaging and My CallPilot Admin Guide and it states the following Forward CallPilot voice messages to an e-mail server in Wav format. I thought it was stored on the callPilot server it self. can someone explain. Thanks | ||||||||

Rep Power: 7 ![]() | The big thing IT is concerned with is what is the burden on the Email server...short answer is none. CallPilot does not store voice and fax messages on the e-mail server. This means that there is no traffic between CallPilot and the e-mail servers when voice and fax messages are received or accessed. If your Exchange server (example) was down and you opened up your Outlook Client off-line mode, you could still access VM messages as it is going off to CallPilot to fetch messages and not Exchange. CallPilot is an Integrated Messaging Platform as opposed to a true Unified Messaging system. Many people call it Unified Messaging, but the correct term for CallPilot at Release 2.02 is Integrated Messaging. With the "unified" design approach, all messages are unified on the e-mail server. When they are presented on your PC screen, they appear in your e-mail inbox. In contrast, with the "integrated" design approach (CallPilot), the messages are stored on two different servers (Voice and Fax on CallPilot, and Email on Exchange)and have to be "integrated" to appear as if they are in the same e-mail inbox on your PC screen. When Nortel released 4.0 software for CallPilot they incorporated a Message Forwarding Rule which has the capability to forward all messages from CallPilot Message Store to Exchange Server (this includes Fax's). Now messages are on two servers and Read Receipts are used to help turn Message Wait Indicators on and off. In my opinion it becomes some what of a burden on the end user to maintain two locations with the same information. If E-mail by Phone functionality is deployed then the CallPilot server accesses the e-mail by the IMAP protocol to retrieve e-mail on the users’ behalf.
