Unhappy 2250 Console cabling

I recently responded to a 2250 console being dead. All indicators are on solid on all keys, upper display is ledgeable. This particular console has 2 normal TNs
connected on levels 0 and 1 and pwr tns on levels 3 and 4 , with a 3903 programmed on level 2.
Having never seen a console using 4 pairs, I researched the cabling. All Nortel documentation says 2250 requires 5 consecitive pairs. There are no diagrams for using 4 pairs.
Console re acts the same when wired in equip. room. Since I am new to this site I am reluctant to tell customer that we do not have enough conductors to console location.
New console will arrive soon. Customer had already taken a known operating console to location and it also failed when plugged into this jack, wjhich is why I took the inop console to equip. room. Other console seems to be wired the same. Customer would not allow me to move working unit to eq. room as test.
Does anyone out there have any practical expierence with consoles working on 4 pairs? I could say that Nortel documentation supports 5 tns and let it go at that, however, console appears to have been working for some time.
Any and all input is appreciated.
Thanks

Have you changed the DLC, the power TN's can be 4 or 5 depending on the distance to the 2250. Nortel likes 3 power TN's all the time. you can also power it locally with a -48v power supply and a UPS.

Dlc was first step made to as attempt to clear. Distance is probably 200-250 ft.
When I asked customer to allow me to disable working console and move to equip. room as a test,I was told that another tech had already done that at the station location and it acted the same , which led them to call me to repair the cable problem.
All pairs were clear, which made me relocate to equip. room where the same condition existed.
It was then that I asked for permission to move working console. I ordered another console with out the benifit of what I considered to be the real test to
prove console was defective.
Any additional thoughts are appreciated.
