Angry IE browser problems w/NRS

New Problem. I removed the 918899 patch as indicated in previous posts and NRS worked fine. Thanks to our diligent MS-worshiping PC department, the 07-16 patches were installed over the weekend and yep, you guessed it NRS no longer works.
Having done some research on the subject KB918899 was supposed to have been fixed in an earlier Cumulativve update by KB926046 but that still did not fix it. I have checked the installed patches and cannot find either of these patches in the list. Anybody have any other ideas?

Thumbs up

I was able to get our PC group to engage Microsoft on this issue. After installing the 07-16 patches the error reappeared. The workaround from Microsoft is as follows:

1. Got the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_OBJECT_CACHIN G

2. edit the following entry and change it from 1 to 0:
iexplore.exe REG_DWORD 0

I applied MPLR22473 to my NRS last week to resolve this issue as our PC support department refused to roll back the MS update or make any changes to the PC.

Quote:
Problem Description:
-------------------
Install the latest security update(MS-06-042 Patch 918899) from Microsoft
on Windows XP or Windows 2003 Server. Launch NRSM from the same PC and try
to service change the NRS using the web Browser. User cannot switch to
Stand-By database to make changes, nor can backup or restore the database.
When user performs any of the above operation, a java script error is thrown
to the user saying "Permission Denied" and blank page is displayed without
any information. Also when user tries to view Routing Entries also same error
is thrown.

Problem Analysis:
-----------------
In NRSM for every transaction, a popup window informing to the user that
the current transaction in progress will be shown. These popup windows needs to
be closed by the same reference which has opened it. The security update
provided by Microsoft blocks if other reference tries to access the window.
All the window reference should released (null terminated) once it is closed.
Few window reference in NRSM UI code are not released and they are causing
problem by trying to close window created by some other reference.

Problem Solution:
----------------
All window references are null terminated in order to avoid closing other
window.

1. After loading the patches, Please logout from NRSM and login again to NRSM using a new IE for the patch to be activated.
2. The setup of the IE browser should be as follows:-

IE Tools - Internet Options - General - Settings
has to be "Every visit to the page"

This patch uses patchStub74() for a new function. So no other installed patch should make use of this.
