Location: Somewhere between Chicago and Metropolis Rep Power: 7 ![]() | benefits of upgrading from a 61 to an 81 Our company has an on-site vendor who has a server that has phone-home capabilities for error reporting. Our security people want them to have an analog port for their unit, but don't want them dialing back in, unless we give them access for a short period of time. Simple, huh? Give them a type 500 port with a non-DID number. That's what I did, but they want more. They want any of the comm team to make a change to the line whenever needed. The people I bounce ideas off of, say that there is no easy way to toggle on/off inbound dialing for a DN such as changing a CLS or another feature. Does anyone know if this can be done? I'm a data guy in my other life, and know how to shut/no shut switch ports. The switch is an Option 81. Thanks in advance

Location: Far away Rep Power: 7 ![]() | I am going to be installing a NAM from scratch My idea would be to create a phantom and call forward that to a mailbox with a message saying this number does not accept incoming calls, then show your guys how to change to call fwd useing remote call forward to point it at the DN when required then back to the mailbox when not required is that of any use to you Colin [Edited on 16/4/2003 by colin] [Edited on 16/4/2003 by colin] [Edited on 16/4/2003 by colin]

I had entirely overlooked this possiblity, even though I had done other digit manipulation. Thanks guys! I really appreciate it!

Location: PA Rep Power: 7 ![]() | Temporarily blocking analog type TN As "the vendor" I do know that a PBX can go down at any time, day or night. If your company operates 24-7, I strongly suggest you tell your security people that 24 hour remote access to your PBX from your vendor is necessary. For instance, if your PBX goes down and your vendors server reports to them, they can dial in and fix it or at least get a good idea what is wrong and perhaps pick-up some parts on the way to your facility to fix it. With limited access your down time will be extended for who knows how long. - someone discovers a problem - calls (by cell phone) someone who knows how to get in touch with someone who knows who to call to fix it - that person then spends how long digging up the directions on how to use remote call forward (no offense Colin) - then realizing that it won't work any way because the switch is down! ALL AT 2 AM!! If your not 24-7, think of this happening at 8 AM Monday morning. PBX's are great but sometimes POTS lines are better.

Location: Somewhere between Chicago and Metropolis Rep Power: 7 ![]() | Moving customer database to new Option 11C from 11E Thanks for your concern. The server I was refering to was a computer data server, and not the switch. Our PBX vendor does have 24/7 access to our switch, and many times does jump in and fix the necessary. Since we are a data production shop, we have a security group to go through when things are in the realm of data and data production, and it is their requirement.
