station identifier

Hey folks,
My company just recently took over another site that has been left in shambles. Fortunatley for us there is a Nortel PBX installed, but very little housekeeping was ever done. My question is: Is there any way to identify a DN without calling the operators or a set with a display by just dialing a number and have your extension repeated back to you? I understand that this will require additional equipment, but what and where can I get it?

Thanks.

Whats the cabling look like? Are the jacks and patch panels/blocks labeled. If you don't want to call something like your cell, tracing back the cables may the trick. Not to mention its your site now, might as well take the time to label everything. Once all phones are labeled, change programming on sets (DES) to jack/location #. It wouldn't hurt either if you did a TN dump and save that to a capture file. The go to ghtrout/pepedog and download the macro'd excel sheets. I'm sure there's something out there, but this is what I'd do if I inherited a mess, because now you can't blame anyone but yourself for the mess.

I'm well aware of what I need to do to straighten the place out. Is there a piece of equipment out there to identify a DN by calling that equipment? I believe DTI made one in the past but I can't seem to find one.

Then why buy a piece of equiptment when you can get someone to help out and sit at a phone to check the display? I am well aware of things I need to do as well, and spending money like that is not one of them. But hey if money is no object more power to you.

Try searching this site for Iron Maiden. I believe that is what they called it and there was a goodly amount of discussion. Quite pricey and convoluted but, if money is no object, then she may be an option.
