Location: Stanford, CT Rep Power: 7 ![]() | OPTION 11c As I stroll by our Nortel Switch, I often notice a bunch of msg's scrolling down the console. I normally don't think much of it - since we are supported by Nextera1, and those buggers are always dialing in, but I would like to know if I should be woried. I am seeing one now -MSG FROM SHELF1:XPEC Error#0001. AND I think I hear a squeeking noise to boot! Does this mean I have a mouse in my switch? Or is this nothing at all? What msgs. should I be concerned about? Sorry for all the questions, but I am a novice at best. Thanks Chris :casstet: [Edited on 26/11/2002 by Stickyhoro]

Location: WNY Rep Power: 7 ![]() | changing PRI card Sticky, Error messages are the switches way of telling you that something happened that shouldn't have (most of the time that is what they are telling you). Sometimes though the messages are harmless. The best way to know is to look them up in your NTP's. That error you mentioned for example could be harmful if it happens often, otherwise you are fine. It's good to get in the habit of looking things up if you can. It keeps you in tune with your switch and might clue you in later on if something really bad happens. AB

Location: Chicago -- CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE Rep Power: 12 ![]() | Meridian Programming Crash Course What is the EXACT msg you recieved? XPEC msg's mean typically mean that something is not responding either to the controller or to the network. Not a good thing!! Jack __________________ Dogs rollover Phones hunt

Location: East Coast Rep Power: 7 ![]() | Definity g3r printing To the point.. repeated msgs of same type could mean you have a potential failure. Here is a little quote from the NTP regarding your switch (I have cut out some of the text which doesnt apply): The XMI messages indicate problems with the communication between the NT8D04 Network Card and the NT8D01 Controller card. XMI messages XMI0000 aaaa Message “aaaa” received from a Network Card (NT8D04). The possible messages are: 2. MSG FROM SHELF x: XPEC ERROR 0001. This error is usually self correcting. If may indicate a double timeslot problem or invalid call teardown.... 2. a. If message occurs rarely, ignore it. b. If it occurs often, replace the Controller. Keep in mind, that excessive msgs of the same error, really are not good. To avoid them is definitely asking for a midnight surprise. Good Luck

Location: New Zealand Rep Power: 7 ![]() | What does a "MSG FROM SHELF1:XPEC Error#0001" mean? Every 51/61/81 I've ever worked on generate XMI000 messages. What's never defined in the NTPs is what constitutes excessive messages. In general they are harmless.

Rep Power: 6 ![]() | I'm experiencing a similar situation on a customers pbx. At one point the xmi messages were coming out so fast on the system terminal we had trouble keeping up. Are you getting any AUD messages along with the XMI messages. AUD017, AUD018, AUD019, TFS501? If so there is a patch for this, what is exactly is I forget. If your hearing a low pitched whining tone from the same shelf as your xmi messages are coming from, put your ear up to the power supply and try to determine if this is the source of your noise. If so replace your power supply. Check your pbx grounding and make sure that it's up to spec per the Nortel Installation NTP's As Bruce said XMI messages are not uncommon to see from time to time, but when the frequency of those messages picks up you may want to investigate them. I've seen when the front covers are left off of the pbx we would notice the frequency increase. Enviormental conditions can also trigger XMI messages, concerns such as Electrical wiring over or under the pbx, flourescent lighting above the pbx or even a cell phone near an open (meaning that the front cover is off the pbx) did trigger an XMI message. I hope this helps and that your concern is not at all like mine. Can you tell I've spent some time on this issue? LOL

Location: Sydney Rep Power: 2 ![]() | I am currently running an issue with XMI000, and accompaning AUD 17 / 18 / 19 messages. the Nortel recommended patches are in my system (25.40B). The effect is that there are constant complaints of 1 way speech, or calls no voice. Per Sig, Net and Controllers have been changed to the affected Loop. next step is starting to look like a cable replacement.
