Phone programming question

I am currently in charge of PBX administration for a small company. I am quite inexperienced, since I am doing this in someone's absence.

We have a Nortel Option 11 PBX, with Meridian Mail.
The receptionist is using a M2250 set.
I've been approached to come up with a solution to a small problem.
When customers call our general number, which is received at reception, and no one is there to pick up the phone call, it rings 3 times and than "this option is invalid" is played back and the phone call is disconnected.
I've been asked to change it so that after the 3 rings it goes into a general mailbox.
I don't even know if it's possible, or where to begin.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

I would look at how the 2250 is currently built. I don't use them but, I would assume that there is a hunt or call forward no answer setting that is wrong. It may be set to go to another extension and that extension may not exist in your PBX or in voice mail. You might want to post your programming of the 2250 so that the entire group can take a look at it.

Well,
I want to thank you Rachelle, because thanks to your reply it hit me to check if the mailbox is even set up for that extension.
What do you know, it did not exist. I just set it up and it works like a charm.
