callpilot etc.

Hi everyone,

were starting to have a few problems with the pbx and as ive been thrown into this mess and a heap of patching and other diverse tasks.

Im of course having problems to figure it out.....
first of we kinda forgot to ground it(or more precisly those who moved it coz the grounding wasnt installed in the new server rom than).
What kind of implications would this likely have on the operations of the pbx?

Further the the harddisk in the Meridian Mail is likely to be breaking down soon, vibrating a lot. And we had a pbx technician in here that advised us to change the disk or upgrade to call pilot.

i expect to change theb harddrive to be the cheaper option but as im very new to this stuff still id like to hear from someone who has done this before....

And could someone tell me what the difference between the Meridian Mail and the Call pilot is, as this place is using some kind of services that might not be in the call pilot....? the maids cleaning rooms usually dial a nr when theyre done to tell the system that the room is clean.

tx

Basically There The Same, If You Go With Call Pilot You Will Need To Purchase The Pms Server Which Is A Separate From The Call Pilot

A system could run without the grounding, but it is always advisable to have a good grounding as this protects your equipment.

Yes, you can do replacing the harddisk of MMAIL, just look for the exact kind of it. Be ready first if you have all the kit for re-installing, as it looks you are end-user and mostly the kit I referred is not bought by an end-user, i.e. tape loader and its blank tapes. Also locate first where are the installation tapes and keycode sheet for MMAIL. Check also to your technician if he knows how to do it.

Upgrade is not required unless if you want to have Unified Messaging. This is the edge right now of Call Pilot against MMAIL.

But since your MMAIL already has a feature, like that of MAID facility, I advise not to jump to CPilot yet.

I would not suggest running a system without proper grounding. Not only will your system have 'funny' things happening to it (dropped calls..lights flashing off and on), but you are putting yourself into a legality issue regarding non-compliance of local electric codes.

The grounding will be in place today, so that should be ok.

For the meridian mail we have a 3 slot card, and ive been told that this version isnt made any more nor the exact harddrive inside it.
It should exist a 2 slot MM card, is there any differences between the two?

Im afraid that they will try to go with the cheapest solution, which is replacement of the MM card?

Does any know the cost of replacing MM's harddrive(or the whole module) versus buying Call pilot?

I admit the Card Option MMAIL (3-slot) is already retired. But that doen't mean it will not be working still. The Enhanced Option MMAIL (2-slot) is next to it, but they can do the same kind of job. It is just availability issue, the former is out of stock, but the latter is available. Try to check some gray market that you can still buy it as your spare.

About the pricing, not knowing the exact amount, but Call Pilot is more expensive than MM harddrive replacement alone.

Just a note, I think that only MerMail rls 13 is the only release supported by Nortel. So if you run into a problem they won't be much help. Also some vendors won't support it. Rls 13 will be retired not to long from now.
So it could be a pay me now or pay me later deal. Just something to think about.
Good luck
