Question Superloop Help

I'm adding a new NT8D04 on a 61C Core/Net 0, and have slots 0 - Conf/tds, 2 - NT8D04, 7 - NT8D04, and 9 - CC. Loops 4, 12 and 20 exist. (one NT8D04 exists on Core/Net 1)

Is there a preferred method of determining which slot you use for the new card? and is there a preference of "LEFT" or "RIGHT" or is that just to adjust for the overhang of a conventional PRI? Does the Loop assisgment reflect the slot that the card is in?

The 'ol NTP's tell you alot, just not what I need to know...kind'a like a Chilton Manual for my car.

Thanks

A superloop must be defined as a multiple of 4. 4, 8, 12, etc.
The backplane has 2 loops defined per slot.
The Left or Right designation is to tell the CPU where to look for superloop 8 for example. The Left or Right can be used to save space for a QPC720 PRI card.
The programming for the Superloop and Controller is done in LD 97.
Add the Controller first, then the Superloop.

Thanks for the info - It's the end of the week and my brain is already at the bar getting hammered, cause I'm still confused about the slot number vs superloop number. I've got net cards in Core 0 slot 2 & 7 and Core 1 slot 2 - how does that translate to SUPL 4, 12 & 20?
What simple fact did I miss when reviewing the NTP's?

Thanks

The core/net 0 shelf has slots 0 thru 7 to support loops 0 thru 15.
Slot 0 has loops 0 and 1. Normally a Conference/TDS card.
Slot 1 has loops 2 and 3. Good place for a Dual Loop DTI/PRI card.
Slot 2 has loops 4 and 5.
Slot 3 has loops 6 and 7.
Your superloop 4 network card uses loops 4,5,6,7 to make superloop 4.
It can be programmed as Left for slot 2 or Right for slot 3.
The unused slot can be used for an MSDL card or something that needs power and signaling but does not reference the loop.
Keep counting.
Slot 4 has loops 8 and 9
Slot 5 has loops 10 and 11
Slot 6 has loops 12 and 13
Slot 7 has loops 14 and 15
Slot 7 has your Superloop 12 network card programmed as Right.

Core/Net shelf 1 has card slots 0 thru 7 to provide loops 16 thru 31.
Slot 0 has loops 16 and 17. Usually another Conference/TDS card.
Slot 1 has loops 18 and 19.
Slot 2 has loops 20 and 21. Your Superloop 20 network card programmed as Left.
Slot 3 has loops 22 and 23.
Slot 4 has loops 24 and 25. You can add a new Superloop 24 Network card here and program as left slot. If available.
Continue counting. It helps to write the loop numbers on the card slot label in a marker pen. Then you don't have to count again.
Print your existing Supl cards and XPE (controller) cards in LD 97. Follow the same pattern.

Thank You very much. I think I actually was aware of how it worked, but being so burned out this week, I couldn't wrap my mind around it. It really helped to have someone clarify it on paper. I had figured it would go in as SUPL 8, but could quite figure out if it was going to cause a problem. Thanks again for clarifying. That's what makes this forum so valuable.
