Rep Power: 6 ![]() | T1 Red Alarm Hello, It appears as if my T1 going to my PBX is down, all channels are disabled and I have a red alarm. I tried to disable the loop and enable it, but that didn't work...all channles stayed disabled. Is there something else I can try? I have a ticket open with the LEC to see if the problem is on their side, but just trying to think of other things that could have gone on the PBX. Analog trunks are still working, just the T1 seems to be the problem. Thanks for any help you can provide me!

Do you have a loop back plug? __________________ -=Welcome to PBXInfo=- -Become a PBXInfo Supporter -Get more PM Space, Profile Picture, a Signature -Add yourself to Pbxinfo's Frappr -Find Nortel Software

Also Your Csu Should Have A Manual Loopback Which You Can Throw To Prove It Good To That Point, The Loopback Plug Or Jack Is To Check It To The Smartjack. Your Responsible For The Portion To The Smartjack Also

Many times these are also helpful to trace down where the problems are occuring. As in a case this morning, after a storm at a remote branch, it was easy to have the on-site staff look at the smartjack and tell me there were no lights on in the jack, meaning that there was no connection to the CO. It also helps when reporting the issue to the first-line dweebs at telco and you can tell them the NIU is dark and dead. (PS, in my case it was a nice little lighting strike - blew the NIU card, CSU/DSU, couple of ports on a 9150, the alarm system, POTS phone attached to the alarm line, and the fax machine).

Most likely the problem is towards the CO. A loopback plug will confirm this. If you plug in the Loopback, and the system goes out of RED, then there is problem with the circuit. YELLOW ALARM - A lot of folks get this wrong. It is a RECIEVED ALARM. Just by the fact that you are getting it, means you see the other side. What it is telling you though, is that the far side does NOT see you and they are sending a YELLOW to let you know that. T1 (Non PRI) - If you loop these back, the channels will go idle and you WILL TRY TO SEND CALLS! be careful when looping back during business hours when this T1 is still a possible route choice. T1 (PRI) - Looping these back will only bring the T1 in service. The DCH will not establish, since it is seeing itself, and one side has to be master and one side has to be slave. Looping a PRI causes the DCH to see a Slave to Slave, or Master to Master DCH connection, and it will not bring the channels into idle. As Rix suggested, always have a loopback plug handy for each side of each interface you have, as well as all of the possible gender configurations. these are easy to make, and a life saver!
