CSE1000 1 way speach path issue.

We have multiple CSE1000's at different locations. 1 as large as 600 IP sets, others as small as 20, 50, 70 IP sets. On all of these we are at various levels of release. They all share an occasional problem that seems to be a widespread CSE1000 issue. It is one way speech path. What I mean is a call will come in or go out the PSTN, across virtual IP trunks, set to set, etc and only 1/2 of the conversation can be heard. If you redial it likely will connect correctly. We have gone for over a year with this problem building at all locations. I think it is not reported because folks can redial and the next call will work. With the reduced expectation of cell calls in the past 10 years I think people have increased their tolerance to unpredictable call establishment. Well, after over a year folks are coming to the conclusion this is a system issue and reports are near daily from all systems. Anyone else with a CSE seeing this issue?

The first very important question is how are you on patches? Check the 1000s, the sig servers, media / ITG cards etc. IP on the Nortel stuff is very patch intensive, if you don't have access to the MPL then have a vendor run a patch audit for you.

The next question after this is how are you on resources (media ports etc) and is there any remote chance that some of the RTP ports are being blocked in the network somewhere or that a routing mechanism is failing; RTP port allocation is always within the same range of ports but if you have 1 or 2 that are being blocked it will cause all sorts of random speech path issues. Bear in mind that call signalling and RTP take place on different ports - it is posible to block all of the RTP ports and deny routing between subnets and the phone will still ring... there just won't be any speech path.

If it were me I would try to get a call in progress that has the one way speech path and start sniffing out in the network starting with the system that can't be heard and checking for an RTP stream and work out from there.

I have seen one way speech problems in the Media cards that seem to grow over time.
I would do everything that Slagburn suggest.
Also can you narrow it down to sites or types of calls, such as ip phone to ip trunks to pstn. You maybe able to narrow it down by tracing calls in ld 80.
You have alot of placing that could be causing issues.
I have also seen subnet mask being set wrong in one interface cause 1 way speech problems.
Hopes maybe this will give you someplaces to look

one way speech

I have acquired the same problem with one way speech path on my PBX since upgrading to CS1000 MMG Succession 4.5 from X11 Rls 25.40 81C but I haven't installed any IP phones yet. But it's pretty co-incidental since this problem cropped up the same week of the upgrade three months ago. The calls seem to be originating from the PBX and answered after hitting COT's to outside world or TIE's between PBX and MSC (wireless). I thought it might be my Cont-4 cards or network cards or even DgtlLine cards, but still happens with new ones. Do you know or have you heard of TDM to TDM calls from the call processor going out different even without media cards? Has anyone let you know about how to fix the problem? I have connected the signaling server through a LAN hub to ELAN of PBX but I thought that only treats VoIP calls.
