BCM 50 as a remote node?

Just got a sales quote that the BCM 50 can be used as a remote IPE off of an 81C? Maintaing 4 digit dialing to and from the BCM and Marp control.

Is this true?

Thanks,
Chas2002

Probably referring to an SRG 50 - uses same hardware as the BCM 50 but different software. IP Phones configured on the remote site with the SRG 50 get service from the main location. Thus maintaining your 4 digit dialling/MARP/.... If the WAN connection goes down, then the IP Phones rehome to the SRG 50 and are still able to make calls. The SRG 50 also provides local PSTN access.

Re:

Thanks GW,

Must be some confusion - I requested a Remote IPE to act as a 'local' shelf on our 81C?

Wether it be Fiber Remote, REMOTE IPE or whatever was up their solutions department, but they said the BCM 50 would act as a REMOTE IPE and that just blew my mind

Thanks again,

But after the WAN link is down , all the feature and how to use the phone is totally different because the different between Meridian and BCM. User might have a little confuse when the link go down.

Nothing is displayed on the phone screen if the link is already down? Like in RLC and RO9150, it is identified Hostless Mode.

Will IP Phones in remote side, during the WAN is down, registers to BCM then continue using it at least locally on that place alone (as my understanding of survivable)?

IP phones on the remote SRG will work in what is called local mode and use the resources of the SRG as far as trunking, also calls to 911 and local call (if long distance) can be routed over the the SRG trunks

I think I've heard that when the link is down, the SRG phones work like Norstar sets, which could be confusing.

that's true there could be some confusion, but should only be during a wan or main PBX problem.
Just to go back to the original question, the SRG concept is basic ip phone functions with a failback feature. This is nowhere near a fiber remote or carrier remote. I'm a little confused on why someone would call this an IPE type scenerio.
Perhaps it will work for you and be cheaper than the remote configuration if you already have an IP enabled PBX.

But still, if I am merely user of a phone, there is no indication on the phone display that WAN is already down. (you know our headache to those imp users )

I think same is true if sigserver is down, and phones only registered on VGMC. The user has no indication (or was there the word SURVIVABLE on phone display, i forget it now ), sorry...
