Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Decomissioning MerMail I am removing the old MerMail system, and the only thing left is the E Net Card (QPC414C). I can 't seem to find anything in the NTP's about it's removal. Can someone point me in the right direction? I could leave it in the switch, but why? I think it's only purpose was to support the Mermail interface...but I could be wrong. Thanks Wherewolf

Once you know if it's a TERD or TERQ you can remove it in LD 17 by doing a CHG to the CEQU and entering X loop number at the correct prompt.

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | M61C.Suc3.0 - Now the the Meridian Mail hardware has been retired, I want to reclaim the entire shelf as an IPE module. Has anyone done this? I think I just need to order an IPE cabinet without sidepanels (refurb'ed about $1000.00) so I get the card rack, backplane, power supply, controller, and amphenol connectors. Am I missing something? Shouldn't be the tough other than it's at the bottom of the stack of 4. I think it's a great way to add 16 slots that are just being wasted now....Any thoughts? Anyone what to buy a MerMail 13 - 12 channel / hard drive / tape drive / serial card / entire voicemail system - maybe just for spares? Wherewolf

Don't forget tails, blocks, controllers, ring generators, power supplies and all of the other fun stuff... and make sure you have space on your frame for it.

Location: Houghton, NY Rep Power: 7 ![]() | As slagborn stated, I would just order the card cage as the shelves are normally universal. I had a simular situation where a old-school PE shelf was under several IPE shelves. We slimply order the card cage which allowed us to slide ou the PE, insert the IPE, connect gound, Power harness, and then the controller to superloop cable. It took use less than 20 minutes to do so. Most the work was removing all the screws. You may want to make sure you have someone help you remove and insert the new cage. The harness can get in the way when you are working alone. You should also be able to disable the shelves and power down that column allowing your switch to stay up and running.

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Many Thanks for the information. If you don't mind me asking, what holds up the three shelves above the one the I am "sliding" out? Does the column spacers and side panel attachments hold everything together around the card cage? So i don't have to get some elaborate overhead sling to hold the upper shelves in place? or am I just really changing out the card rack and the backplane? Thanks agin for the info. For example... I built my lap switch by obtaining a UEM with a CE card cage and swapping the CE card cage with a CORE / NET card cage.

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Many Many Thanks for the knowledge. That being the case, maybe I should step back one and plan on moving the CoreNet1 over to the bottom of the second column (old Mermail Shelf) and then put the new cardrack/backplane in the old CoreNet1 spot. Now....to figure out the cabling and what I'll need to make that happen, and to figure out how to sked some downtime - which is pretty tough in a 25X8X366 environment ..livin on the edge?Wherewolf
