Confusion about Caller ID over T-1

I have read a lot about ANI and Caller ID which have left me very confused. I have a new call center recording program. We are trying to capture inbound phone number information. The calls are coming into the call center over a T-1. I called Bellsouth (our vendor) and they said that they would turn on caller ID for the T-1. When they did so the calls stopped sending the DNIS digits and all of the calls were routed to the operator. When they reversed the caller ID the calls routed correctly. I was told that I needed to add *ANI*DNIS* to my PBX. I've never heard of anything like that so I called Bellsouth. They came out to check the system and told me that I can't get Caller ID over the T-1.

All I need to capture is the phone numbers being dialed into the system over this toll-free T-1. Is there really no way to do that? Thank you.

Carol

You would need to have an ISDN/PRI T1 circuit and then all of this information would be carried on the D-channel to your PBX. See if those 'buzz' words don't help matters a bit.

I'm unclear on what you need. Are you trying to see the numbers (Caller ID) of the person who is calling your switch or are you trying to get the number they dialed (DNIS or DID)?

Most areas require the ISDN/PRI circuits to deliver caller ID, but regular analog [so-called] T-1s carry the DNIS or DID info, that's how your switch knows where the call is supposed to go. If it's the latter there should be a way to get the info.
