Need XP Compatible NTPs on CD

We are in the middle of migrating to XP on all of our PCs. The majority of my NTP CDs are no longer compatible and are not working. So, all of the CDs that we have received in our classes of late, are non-functioning. Are there newer CDs that are XP compatible?

I would like to have the latest of Helmsman NTLH91AB (A0539891), the Meridian Electronic Reference Library North American Single User Edition, as well as, Symposium Call Center Server 5.0, NTUF25AD, A0523224. These three should be all that we require to get us reconnected with our resources. With no books being distributed and the CDs being our only avenue to the NTPs, as an end user, we are really feeling a pinch. We would need 14 (7 for the office PC, and 7 for the laptop case) full sets.

Anyone have any thoughts????

Hey Rachelle, They do work on XP.

What you need to do, is go to the whatever drive they CD is on, and copy and paste all the files to a folder on your PC.
Basically you will be able to use the whole thing without having to have the CD.
I know this works for the Merl and merl apps.

Basically you just copy the files over manually then it looks for the files on your C drive rathern then the CD.

When I put it in the D drive I get an error message that I need 3MB of virtural memory to run the CD. This is bogus since I have over a Gig of memory to work with. The Systems admin folks looked at it and agreed that it was the XP version that was booching it up.

If it comes down to taking the individual files off of the CD then the sysadmin folks will have to do that and find me a place on the network to store them. New rules for administration of PCs and I am not considered the administrator any longer, of my own PC.

Couple old software with new rules and trouble soon follows.

Yup, "not the owner anymore"...
I went thru that... And all the tech guys came running to upgrade, patch, do all kind of things to keep it current and the way it had to be for them.

I made it simple..." you can do what you want, but when I can't do my job anymore because of something YOU did, the PBX becomes YOUR problem. I will be on my boat waiting for a call telling me you got it all fixed.".

Their eyes got big... they put the PBX on an isolated network and never came back.

Good Luck!

That is the exact issue. I only wish that I could abdicate my role, at least for a little while. I just don't think that, even then, there would be any understanding or appreciation for the efforts that I expend.

PC locked down

If they are the newer CDs it is trying to load Helmsman on your PC.Your
PC is locked down so apps can not be loaded to your C drive. This is the new IT department thing of the week to keep PCs safe.

We found it easier to dump the Helmsman stuff and just load the pdf files. It's a pain to rename them since you lose the indexing function, but it's a one-time requirement.

I did a write up about year n half ago on how to add collections to the Helmsman index... saved me a lot of time renaming because I have close to 20 collections now.

Running Helmsman 4.3 on two XP machines with no issues todate aside from the Acrobat plugin problem that has plagued Helmsman since Acrobat 5.0, I also have full admin rights on both machines.

This is very strange, as i've got hard copies of everything I can't replicate it, but theres a few security patches from MS that fix a LOT of virtual memory issues, we have had similar probs due to using symantec anti virus for windows xp which reported zero pagefile even though it was set to double the system memory size.

Are you able to stick it in a pc thats not XP'ed yet and just drag it across through a network share?

cheers

The only pc that is not XP'ed is not attached to the network. That is the problem.

If only I had online access to the helmsman, then I would not need the cd. Unfortunately, I and my company don't rate that level of access. Everytime I attempt to look at an NTP at nortelnetworks.com, I get the error message that says I don't have access.

Security, security, security..... I just don't feel any safer for it.

grrrrrr......................
