I have a new hire who is blind. They use a 2616 to answer 6 incoming lines. Because they're blind, a message waiting light isn't any use. Is there a way to get some sort of audible message indicator like a stuttered tone or something? We use Octel voice mail and 61c running succession 4.0 (1000m).

Thank you,
Brandon

Meridian Mail routing question

I can't remember the CLS code (no NTPs near by to look it up) for it but I believe if you deny the message waiting lamp it defaults to the studdered dial tone.

You need to have the MWA Class of Service if you want a set to be able to recognize message indication (light or no light).

I don't beleive this functionality is available for Digital Phones.

It definietly is available on Analog phones you set LPD (lamp denied) in the class of service and that triggers the Stutter Dialtone. This however does not help you.

true, I have never tried it on anything but a 500 set.

Here's another possible solution: Get an Algo Aux Box and hook a small buzzer or some way of providing a tactile indication for your user. I just checked out the user guide for the 4100 Aux Box and by setting a DIP switch, it can provide a relay closure for Msg Waiting indication.

(Note: I have no connection to Algo other than being a satified user of their USB AuxBox product), and they should be readily available; I purchased my Aux Boxes through Graybar.

Thanks for the replies. It appears as though it is not possible to do with a digital set. I looked all over and had my vendor look into it. I guess the only options are to place a 500 set nearby that the user can check if they're wondering, or use a third party buzzer of some sort, like telecom116 suggested.
Darn...

I admit the Algo will probably cost beween $200 and $300.

If you have some electronics knowledge, you might be able to cobble together something to provide audio or tactile indication of the MWI current on an analog line. Another place to check for this type of stuff is www.sandman.com (noticed that he also sells the Auxbox, catalog page 109).

Good luck and keep us apprised if you find a workable solution; we may be in the same situation someday.
