I have a 3901 programed in our fitness center and someone asked me if the phone will be able to call "911". I said well "Daaaaa..." then I tried it and it will not call 911. It was setup for only ext to ext dialing. Someone, maybe me, forgot to test 911. Any thoughts? Here is the TN:

NCOS 1 and 911

Let me guess... you're not using ESA?

That's were you can just pickup the phone and dial 911 right? Then no we are not using that. I suppose we should look into getting that package. For the time being though, any thoughts?

From what I've seen there are 3 packages, each providing a different level of ESA services, I've found that just about every site I've worked on has the basic ESA package (329) and not the other two that provide OSN and some other features.

It sounds you're currently routing 911 through BARS and the RLB handling 11 has an FRL that doesn't allow access to stations under NCOS x.

Look in LD 90 for an SPN of 11 and or 911... and then look at the RLI they are set.

You wont believe this one. Some how the 911 calls were pointed to some RLI that was trying to call out on our fax server. Thank the man for inventing LD 80 so I could TRAC my TN.

The last time that happened on one of my sites everyone lost access to ESN / ESA overlays with the exception of the engineering staff and senior technicians.

Loosely translated... if I were you (depending on where you are in the pecking order) I would take steps to ensure that this sort of thing never happens again... a 911 foul up of that nature could end costing someone their life not to mention your organization a lot of money / grief and someone in telecom their job.

I would start with setting up ESA as it funtions outside of BARS so if someone does go mucking around with NCOS/FRL/TARG/TGAR etc they won't foul up 911 at the same time.
