Slot 10 in 11c main cabinet

I've managed to turn something off on the Option 11c in my quest to connect a PC directly to one of the Serial Ports that was used by the TSB (brand name) modem.

Here is the problem. When I originally connected the PC, I setup the COM port to match the serial port settings on the Option 11c. Here are those original settings.
I've had to retype these in, so if the spacing isn't correct, that is why. The SSC card
jumpers in front were set at 1200.

The first couple times I used it, things seemed to work well. So after reading a few
posts on here, I decided to see if I could turn up the speed a bit. 9600bps seemed
to be choice most often mentioned for TTY 1 and TTY 2. I also found a post somewhere
that mentioned MULTI-USER needed to be turned or my quest for more speed would be dampened by the slowest port on the SSC card. I managed to turn that on in LD 17 and
proceeded to change the speed of TTY 1 and TTY 2. I disabled them in LD 37 then went
back to LD 17 and made the changes. I then reenabled them in LD 37 and changed the
PC COM port settings accordingly. I have been using Anzio Lite and have it set for
VT220 emulation. I started up the newly configured Anzio session and attempted to
login. I was able to type in LOGI<cr>, but was not presented with the PASS? prompt.
The cursor just sat there at the end of the word LOGI. So thinking I must have done
something wrong in the TTY setup, I quit Anzio and proceeded to change back the way
they were using the Maintenance Terminal that sits just a couple feet away. My idea was
if I could get this working, I would use TightVNC to get a connection to the PC's desktop from my desktop and it would beat going to the Phone Room everytime a
change was needed. So with the settings changed back and the TTY 1 & 2 ports enabled
again, I tried connecting again. To my surprise, the cursor stayed at the end of the
word LOGI again and I didn't see the PASS? prompt. After I bit more reading in the
Nortel manuals that came with the system, I found I could check to see how many users
were attached, since I had turn MULTI_USER on. So I logged onto the Maintenance
Terminal and then reconnected the PC. I type in LOGI<cr> and then just typed in the password despite not seeing the PASS? prompt. Typing WHO at the Maintenance
Terminal > prompt showed that TTY 2 had made a connection and it was at OVLY 0.
Seeing that I entered LD 20<cr>, despite not being able to see what I typed in (LOGI
was still there). Typing WHO again at the Maintenance Terminal showed TTY 2 was
in OVLY 20, but by looking at the PC, I could not see anything on the Anzio session
screen other than the word LOGI. I ended the PC session by typing LOGO and that
was typed over the word LOGI. So, to make a long story short, it looks like I am
getting a connection to the Option 11c, but am not able to see anything the Option
11c should be outputting to the session screen. That is to say, when I type in LOGI<cr>
the cursor should roll down one line then I should see the PASS? prompt, but for some
reason I am unable to. I am able to do this at the Maintenance Terminal, but the PC
seems to have lost the ability, so I am guessing I shut something off unknowingly.

Is there some area or overlay I can check or tell the Option 11c it is OK to display
this on the PC terminal session? If you need more information that this, let me know
and I'll do what I can to provide it.

Thank you,

Demo version of NRU 9.1

I am not really familiar with Anzio. I use procomm and some people use hyper terminal.
Procomm is the only program that I have found to emulate all of the different protocols taht Nortel uses. As far as communication to the PBX, I use VT100, 9600 baud, 8 bits, no parity, and 1 stop bit. Occasionally, when doing upgrades , etc, you will need to changeover to 9600 e,7,1. Try turning on these parameter and se if it makes a difference.
1. Fast terminal update
2. normal scroll
3. VT100 terminal emulation
4. Strip 8 bit
5. Line wrap
6. Block cursor

Try it and let us know

Sorry it took me a couple days to respond. I had tried changing the com port settings before posting and had no luck. To me it was as if a buffer was filled up and had no where to dump the information that accumulated. Today, after reading a bit about the "man init" button on the SSC card, I pressed it. I watched the Maintenance Terminal screen and saw what appeared to be a rebooting of the system. It took about 90 seconds and then the screen said AUD0000. I tried using the PC again and this time I was able to see the PASS? prompt after typing LOGI and pressing enter. I would rather have not resorted to this method, but this time it worked and there was seemingly no harm done. At least no one complained about dropped calls, etc. So now it appears that I am able to do what I sought to do and that is access the switch via a remote control connection (TightVNC) from my desktop. That way I can make changes without having to go to the phone room all the time.

mrmike, Thanks for your input!

Option 11c Maintenance Terminal - Revisited

In the future, goto LD 37 and STAT the tty ports first. more the likly the port was just disabled, caused by trying to get port to respone with the wrong settings, it doesn't take much to disable a port.

I wish I was able to post all that I did try before resorting to the "man init" button. I had done that, that is go to LD 37 and stat the ports several times. I also DIS and ENL them several times too. I did find, like you said, it doesn't take much to disable them. I'd like to be able to talk my company into sending me to one of the Global Knowledge training classes, since I inherited this system with NO training. My main job is maintaining the network of where I am employed, but due to cutbacks, I also had the phone system dropped on my lap too. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind it and accept the challenge, but it would be nice not working so "blind" too. We have an outside vendor to do any major stuff (time and materials is the type of contract I believe), but they want $150 an hour with 2 hours minimum when they set foot in the door. Not too bad I suppose, if I can give them 2 hours of work to do, but too many times in the past they would be in for 15 min's to one half hour and then leave. That part was getting to the accounting staff here. Thanks for your input acewarlock.

Option 11c Maintenance Terminal - Revisited

Don't take this the wrong way, but i've been unemployed for over a year now because the company I worked for made cut backs and now have the IT guy do my former job and they also use a time and materal contract. they got the IT guy the Computer aided training CD's as they wouldn't spring for the more expensive class room training.

Good Luck

I hear what you are saying. When I take on new responsibilities, I would rather do it because there wasn't anyone doing that before or because the person that was doing it left for greener pastures. I don't like the downsizing, although I do understand the accounting folks think's it saves money, and me displacing someone that used to do the work. I guess I should be happy I am still working because I know a lot of folks aren't. I think Global offers the CBT's as an alternative to classroom training and they (upper management) might spring for that. I'll have to check into it further.

Thanks for your reply and the encouragement.

I wish the country's economy was doing better than it is. It is in a pretty sad state in many areas of the country.
