So after telling the folks on high how easy it is to upgrade opt11s to 3.0 (having done enough of them to be able to do it in my sleep) I set off for my first site of the evening with plans to drink beer a few hours later. After doing my backups (PCMCIA and laptop) I did the flash upgrade from the software delivery card (R10) restarted the system, after it came up I verfied the update of the primary flash and powered it down and replaced the software daughter board with the new NTTK25CA Rel 1... this was when the fun starts... when I powered the system back up instead of getting the usual New System install Ctrl-I prompt it went into this circular reset with H/W Watchdog timeout errors. I've heard of this happening when you don't update the flash before you start but not only did I update it I verified that it was updated. Next I tried a different SSC card, same process same results. Throughly frustrated with this situation I opted out and tossed the old software board on the SSC and brought the system back up on it's old software. I went to another site that I also had to upgrade with a totally different upgrade kit however ordered at the same time and shipped in the same box from Nortel... guess what... the exact same thing happend. Totally I confused I dragged my senior tech out on site and made him try it... same deal, every time we tried the new NTTK25CA Rel 1 software daugther boards these things would go into a constant reset and not give us the software install menu. When we took the software daughter board off of the SSC and powered it up with just the PCMCIA we were able to boot up and get to the install menu, of course without the DB on there we weren't gonna get very far past that so we didn't try but at least it didn't keep resetting. I'm leaning toward somthing being wrong with our upgrade kits, two sites and two different kits and the same failure but it starts to work when we pull the DBs... I dunno. The SSCs we tried were NTDK20EA Rel 7 (3 of them) and 1 NTDK20FA Rel 1, none of them worked. Are we missing something in our process? Between the two of us we've done A LOT of these upgrades and never had an issue until now, aside from both of us being exhausted the biggest diff is that we are using stuff that was just recently made, the last upgrades we did used upgrade kits that were made many months prior to these. As stated above I know I need to call support on this but finding two of the same bad things at two different sites is weird. A solutions search at the Nortel Website only turned up the flash upgrade issue which is a well known issue.

Rep Power: 7 ![]() | Slag, I have an upgrade kit here, just waiting for time to do it. I will check to see if my stuff is the same and post back. I haven't done as many as you, and have trouble with 1 site. We have an open tckt, that was sent to the design team. This switch works ok, but, every call in generates an err 5525 and points to the trunks in LD14. This is a PRI switch. Now, come to find out since the upgrade, we can't get into the modem, having changed out 3 of them, can still get in via tty, and rlogin, and also getting sporadic no msg lites on analog even though cls is mwa & lpa.

Rep Power: 7 ![]() | Slag, I open the boxes sent from Nortel for this upgrade, and no software, nothing. Only the cabinet expansion kit and 2 port daughter board. Will post back when we get this straightened out.

Still not much of an answer on whats going on here, I'm having a hell of a time convincing everyone that we really did update the boot flash because not doing that will cause this problem...

The NTTK25CA Rel 1 Daughter boards are intended for use with boot flash R11 or higher which comes with 4.0. So basically Nortel sent me a whole boat load of upgrade kits with 3.0 software (as they were ordered) and daughterboards for a 4.0 upgrade which won't work with the boot flash that comes with the 3.0 software.
