I have been asked to examine a proposal for another site for the Upgrade or replacement of their PABX which is a MD110 with BC9 firmware.
They have been given a number of proposals which range from upgrading the MD110 to BC12 firmware and a few other things to buying a complete new PABX.
If anyone has worked on or has knowledge of the MD110, I would appreciate your thoughts/Opinions of this particular PABX.

This site is actually leasing the PABX and are now looking at buying it and only doing the critical upgrades.
They have been quoted AUS$33K for the buy back price, would anyone have any idea whether they think this is a fair price.

MD110 12years old with BC9 loaded, about 572 handsets.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Alcatel 4400 Omni PCX feedback

Wow, that seems barely reasonable for a 12 year old system. Its like a catch 22. You have it installed. Even if you got a better deal somewhere else say you could get an Option 11C with 500 handsets for 30K doubtful but you could. Would you forklift your old system? You would almost definatley have downtime and the amount of money it would cost to put in a new system may be much more.

but then again that system is 12 years old, What is the upgrade path and capacity of that system. Is the company going to need to upgrade anyways because of size limitations?

You could probably get more features for you buck right now if you looked at a new solution but I don't think it would be wise if the system has a lot of capacity left and fulfills the customers requirements now.

The MD110 is still Ericsson's Enterprise PABX, going to firmaware BC12 would give you IP and is fully expandable.
Almost full capacity which is a problem.
Quote from Ericsson to bring it up to date and to spec and an extra LIM (Line Interface Module) plus a couple of other things (such as new VM system, and new backup batteries and rectifier) was about AUD$160K.
For a brand new PABX for the exact same specs after Upgrade was about AUD$197K for a NEAX 2400 IPX.

It has been my recommendation to my boss to buy back the PABX and do any critical upgrades now and continue an ongoing upgrade of the sytem.
The LIM can added at anytime and is fully self supported reducing downtime, and can even be located in another location.

After Upgrade I do not see any advantages of buying a new PABX.

Thanks for the feedback.

Hi DTU,

Using the old MD110(i think you have the 90/96) would still be usefull, but with regards to some other boards that would be available in the future, would not work on the old one. I have the same here, I need to dispose 5 LIM's, it was replaced with a new consono type. According to the creators, they would stop support for the consono type and expand the new one(MX-ONE series). Thats would be a good price for a buy back, the initial offer for my system here is 1K per LIM, can you believe that? Are you offered an MX ONE TSW or a consono?
Better study the things that you may need in the future, such as VOIP solutions & support on the consono(if this is the offer). If MX ONE is offered, you got a good system there. Haven't tried it though, but I have one system in Australlia that is stable, it has a consono type compined with the MXONE TSW and a voicemail system, all from ericsson.

Regards,
Sepay
