Newbie questions, PRA to FRA

Hi,

We have a MD110 phone system. Up until now I've not had to do anything with it, as it was set up , and works for what we need it for.

It's connected via a PRA (32 line) to our telco, and we utilise 100 number range.

We're downgrading our PRA to a FRA (16 lines) with our telco.
The telco is going to look after this for us, and it will be done at their exchange. They said that no further work will be needed at our end. Our MD110 support people seem to think that the MD110 will need reprogramming and that it may need a new card, but our telco guy says this should not be the case.
Is it possible they are both right?
Any insights greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
def

Hi def345,

I don't understand what is FRA stands for, but if your telco would only decrease the number of lines going thru that PRI line. You need to block some lines on the MD110, so that the users won't experience getting a blank channel and wait for a time for it do disconnect. You would need to verify to the telco which channels would be removed so that the associated channels on the MD110 side could be blocked and removed. Regarding the TLU card being replaced, you need to verify from telco if they would not change the signalling or their interface on this.

More details would help.

Regards,

Sepay

Thanks Sepay, actually I think you answered my question fine.
Sorry, I don't usually use TLAs like that, and I should have checked as I'm so used to using these here, that I didn't realise that they're just our telco that uses them.

PRA is a primary rate access. It's just what our telco uses for a PRI 30 B-channels and 1 D-channel.
An FRA is a fractional rate access is a smaller product they use which gives you just 16 B-channels and 1 D-channel. It's cheaper and more lines can be added as needed.

Thanks,

Hi def345,

Your welcome mate. Only the FRA is what I don't understand. Let me know if you have further concerns.

Regards,

Sepay
