| printer devices We recently acquired a nice PBX from a place that went out of business. It is a definity ECS I believe with 12 seats, 2 cabinets. Is there a way we can switch this to our name? My problem is it is limited to 200 ports and I don't have administrator access to it. Some places in town I have approached for solutions have come back with solutions that are higher than just buying a new one to relicense this. We don't have a lot of money to spend - but we want basic 1-800 number tracking, and 3 tie lines to a remote office - etc - which would require more than 200 ports. How can I relicense this without paying an arm and a leg- and if I can't afford avaya's new line - what other companys can I look at? I'm not opposed to a good voice over IP solution that is scalable. I'm willing to go outside of our local vendors, and even to a different brand, if someone can provide me an afforadable solution - because the places in town just have me confused at this point. Location: Tolland, CT Rep Power: 6 ![]() | ITG Trunk install issues. Jeremy, It will cost an arm and a leg to have the unit re-licensed. Avaya frowns on the second hand market and they go out of their way to make it a costly adventure. If this is a Definity, you can GET administrator access to the switch. By "hacking" it, you'll render the unit grey market (which at this point it currently is). I've never done it myself, but from what I've read you can start the machine up without the flash card in the slot, and the switch will be a clean install with which you should be able to login with the default administrator passwords (do a google search for them....I'm not sure of the legality of posting them here). Once you're in, you'll need to input some type of offer code to validate the switch (once again, do a google search....I've never done it personally). This should give you access to all areas of the unit (although I make no guarantees....I'm just passing along info I've found in other places with regard to this issue). As for legal alternatives, I just setup a Lucent Merlin Legend system in a remote TX office, and it was relativly cheap as well as quite scalable (although a bit long in the tooth when compared to the newer switches on the market). I would recommend contacting metrolinedirect.com or Walt Medak Associates. Either should be able to quote something for you and / or point you in the right direction. Good Luck! __________________ Moderator - Avaya / Lucent Definity Boards | ||||||||
