Cool New to IP Office

Hi All. I am new to IP Office. I have two servers; an IP Office server and a Delta server.

Can someone explain what the Delta server does? I have looked at the Avaya Support site but cannot find anything on the subject.

Thanks,
ShadowRayz

The Delta Server is used as a log for the IP Office. It will log all of the incoming and outgoing calls and what trunk they are using ETC..

The only time you need more than 1 server is if your running more than 1 application such as VM Pro and CCC. Avaya has now certified certain servers to run both.

Have you seen the SMDR/Delta Server document from Avaya?

Does that server do call detail recording as well as reporting?

Delta server is used for the call detail records through which you can log all the calls even incoming also.

Hi, in a recent role I was 2nd tier support for a distributor of the IP Office providing tech support to 1st level support engineers installing them. If I couldn't fix it then I'd escalate to Avaya 3rd level support directly.

Simply put, Delta Server is the link between the IP Office and other applications. It does many things but it keeps track of ALL calls in the system. This information can then be used for many things. One of them is SMDR/CDR - this is not enabled in default but when activated, will output all SMDR information to a text file. This text file includes date/time, duration, ring duration, calling party number, called party number, calling party name, called party name, trunk number, trunk name, and so on (the usual SMDR stuff). You can read this file as a pure text file but it's comma seperated so it's not that easy to read. You can open it in Excel and because it's a CSV file each value is in a seperate column in Excel. It includes column headers so you know what each value is for. For more detailed information on SMDR (and the IP Office in general) you should download the Engineer's Toolkit (might be listed as Documentation CD) - this can be downloaded from support . avaya . com and select the Downloads option, follow your nose and select IP Office then the software version you want - I'm not sure about the US, but Avaya UK refuse to support anything other than the current release if you have any problems so all systems should be on the latest version. The Engineer's Toolkit is the IP Office bible - it has everything you could ever want to know technically about the IP Office and is a must for anyone supporting it. It does take 650MB of your hard drive space though!

The other thing that Delta Server does it connect to call centre applications like Avaya's CCC (or CBC). As Delta Server collects all information about all calls in the system, CCC can be used to report on agents logged in, number of calls taken by agents/groups, call waiting time etc. Other products like Zeacom Q-Master can also connect to the system in this way and do a much better job (although it's a lot more expensive).

Hope this helps.

Cheers
