Networking two Axxess systems - PBX Info | Free PBX, PABX, IP PBX, VOIP and Telephone Information Resource Forum

I have two offices, one in Oklahoma and the other in Texas, that I need to network. I've found few guides on-line about how to do it, but I still have some questions. First, one system is running 10.003 and the other is on 9.002. Is that going to be a problem, or am I okay? Second, do I have to reserve B-channels for calls between systems or can they be shared between ARS and the system link?

The versions are fine. Networking will not be a problem. You do not have to reserve any B Channels either. You'll just want to make sure in QoS that voice has priority but that's pretty standard.

Many things to consider when you network. Here is a short and I am sure incomplete list:

Is your system licensed for networking at both locations?
How will you network, via T-1 or IP?
If via IP will your data network support the voice network?
Will your routers support QOS?
Do you have the proper cards to network? Ex T-1/PRI or IPRC Cards?
Do you have the experience with the system to do the programming? If so great but if not do you need to hire expertise to do this work?
Do you need to upgrade any of the systems, PBX or routers to make this work? I would upgrade the 9.002 system if it were me. Don't forget to upgrade the boot flash on both the CPC's, IPRC's and T-1 Cards.

These are just a few of the questions that come to me right off the top of my head. If you can answer these questions, you might be ready to network. If you can not answer these questions then it is time for you to stop, ask more questions or hire someone who can help you.

1) Both systems are licensed for networking.
2-3) We plan to network via T-1, though it may be better to do it by IP as we have more available bandwidth there and an established VPN.
4) Our routers do support QOS
5) Both systems have T-1/PRI cards
6) I've done all the programming on both systems for the last two and a half years.
7) I'd love to upgrade both of the systems, but I don't think I could convince the bean-counters to pay for it. I may be able to get the 9.002 upgraded, but I doubt it.

Do you have IPRC cards in the system as well? It might save money in the long run to buy the cards now if you don't and run your networking over your existing infrastructure. Otherwise you'd obviously have to network via T-1 and pay for the cost of a point to point T-1 every month.
