Question DID Faxing

Inter-tel 5200, 4 nodes, EM/UC centrally maintained at main site

We've recently purchased the 5000 Inter-tel for our company and have this running over an MPLS network which connects our 4 branches. One of the things that was sold to us (and that we really liked) was the ability to fax directly to a user's DID (same DID that is used for voice calls), however when the engineers got here there were a couple problems and ultimately they said it wasn't a good idea to do.

I believe the main problem had to do with calls coming in from an auto-attendant wouldn't work correctly if the DID was first pointed to the fax application... or possibly wouldn't follow UC call routing correctly.

Can I get some other opinions on whether or not this is something we can use. The engineers were also concerned that the processor couldn't handle it because each call would essentially be going to the enterprise messaging server.

Thanks

Same issue...

We have 5 nodes with the same features also riding an MPLS. Our main branch has a PRI with DIDs assigned to it and our east branch also has it's own PRI with DIDs assigned to it. We can't fax to DIDs at the east site from our main site either. Main site works fine.

I just spoke to an engineer from Inter-Tel and was told that DID faxing between nodes isn't supported!! Imagine that!! WTF?!?!

I think this is because there are two separate PRIs with different DID assignments to each PRI. But c'mon Inter-Tel!!! This is your phone system. How the HELL can you not route DID faxes between nodes?!?! I'm furious!! This is BS!!

Can someone clarify or verify this please?

maybe not...

Now I'm getting word that this might not be the case and it might be supported. I'm working with someone to resolve this. I'll post my findings.

Im not sure from who/where you are getting you're info but faxing between 5000 nodes is most definately supported thru t.38. However it is not supported to Axxess nodes via IPRC (it still can work but the IPRC does not support t.3.

There were some software issues initially with T.38, now it is quite reliable though. I would highly advise you have your dealer call in for support to Mitel direct on this.

Configuration issue???

I'm working with an engineer on this issue as I write this so please stand-by for the results. I will post the fix as soon as I've implemented it.

My apologies for sounding so crass on my original post. I think the Inter-Tel is a great system and unfortunately some outside influences encouraged a rather hostile post at the moment when I made that post.

Thanks all for helping with this.

No, separate DID's for each node. Each site has their own PRI's. EM is only located at main site though.

DB Update

After speaking to Inter-Tel engineers they verified that this was a known issue and that the fix was in the latest version of the DB. Our current version (2.2.1.20) had to be updated to the latest version (2.3.6.47). We updated one of our sites and will be updating the other site this week. I'll keep you posted.

Update complete but...

Okay...we got the updates for the system in place however our faxing to DIDs still doesn't work but now the issue is with our carrier not Inter-Tel. We isolated the problem by faxing from physical fax to physical fax and although the fax machines connected and shook hands the faxes were not being transmitted.

The issue is with our carrier Paetec. They currently have issues that they are working out regarding the T.38 protocol which is used for faxing by the Inter-Tel system.

They say they should be rolling out full support for T.38 across all their routers within the next month or so.

Hope that helps. I'll keep you posted as we make progress.
