DID Faxing

I've got DID's assigned in my system for our branch office with users setup for enterprise messaging. Although when calling the DID # the call rings at the appropriate persons desk they are not able to receive faxes into their email. Faxing to email is working properly at our main location.

I've verified all the settings comparing them to a known working extension (mine) and I still cannot get a fax thru to someones email on a remote node. The error comes back with "Fax Delivery Failure"...here are the contents of two attempts...

2008/01/03 0921:297 Fax scheduled for immediate delivery

2008/01/03 0921:750 Placing Call to 18133xx11xx

2008/01/03 0923:266 Sending

2008/01/03 0936:970 Retrying due to Disconnected (0x1002)

2008/01/03 0935:512 Placing Call to 18133xx11xx

2008/01/03 0936:887 Sending

2008/01/03 09:52:24:514 Retrying due to NFX: T.30 protocol error (0x50217)

Any ideas?

Tom,
I think I would check the programming in the 5k again, the process should be something like the DID number points at a CRA that has a long pause in the day/night recording. The CRA receives the fax and sends it to the users email address. This is all there is to inbound fax. It does not make sense that a remote site would be not working, all the VM is on the EM, and the email server is local. Double check the programming.

Still an issue...

I'm still having a problem with this. Actually, now it looks like I can receive faxes to my DID but cannot send from it. How do I trouble shoot that?

Do they have IP phones at the branch office or another Inter-Tel phone system? If they have another pbx, what type is it, what type is at your main site, and how are they networked?

All the same...

We're running CS5000's at all locations. Endpoints are digital. All nodes are on MPLS network.

Can anyone send faxes? Here are some possible causes:

Remove the outgoing termination digit '#' from fax on demand programming.

EM has changed the way its resources are used for faxing. When performing an outbound fax from EM then back into the system, this ties up system resources and is not good practice. EM has been designed so you can fax to other user's on the system faster and without using up fax resources for strictly outbound and inbound faxing.
To use this method you must make sure you have the user's email address programmed in the email gateway of their mailbox in database programming.
When you want to send a user a fax, you open the document in your third party software program as you normally would to send an outbound fax. However you select the To button and select the user's mailbox. This will send the fax to the EM voice mail box of the user and convert the fax to tiff and forward through the email. Thus not using any EM fax resource. This method is much faster than reliable than faxing out of EM and back into the EM voice mail.
If you have a .Tiff document already, you can just forward to the user's email address on the network. There is no need to send this through EM using ports on the NMS board.

Sending to outside number...

The issue is wen sending to an outside fax number. For example, I tried sending a fax using EM but the fax kept failing. I went to a physical fax machine and faxed to the same number and it went thru just fine.

Sounds like it is only the remote site that has issues and you have the two sites IP networked...... If this is the case then you should take a look at how your fax encoding is setup between the nodes. Ideally it would be setup to use t.38 on both nodes with the default t.38 settings. Also there are some fixes relating to t.38 in the later versions of the 2.x IT5K software, make sure you are running 2.3.x on both 5000's involved. If you are running a version <2.3 then setting up g.711 for faxing would be better.

Your best bet may be to have your dealer come out and assist you with this one though.
