8622 VOIP Audo Quality problems

I inherited an Axxess 9.1 system and a problem with our 8622 VOIP phones.

On a fairly frequent occasion, the audio on the IP phones will take a dive. Static, cutting in and out, and generally unusable.

Inter-Tel has been little or no help. My ISP has been very tolerant of all the help I have asked for.

The IPRC card has an external IP address, and bandwidth is no trouble an any of the connections.

I have found some advice in other forums saying to adjust the settings on the system\IP-related Information\Call Configurations off of the defaults, from\to the following:

Audio Frames/IP Packet - 3\5
Average In Time Frame Percentage Threshold - 60\60
Average In Time Frame timer - 5\3
Echo Suppression Sensitivity Level (%) - 60\60
Minimum Playback Time - 80\100
Transmit DTMF Level - USA -9 -7
DTMF Encoding Setting - G.711 Mu-Law\RFC 2833
Speech Encoding Setting - G.711 Mu-LawG.729
Echo Suppression Blocker - Yes\NO
Echo Suppression - Yes\Yes

I'm looking for any help I can get here. We have also considered looking at sending the traffic over a VPN connection, in the hope that we will be able to give it priority, but the hardware has not arrived yet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

Changing to G729 could help you but there are more factors in the quality.

Main factor of course is your Bandwidth. Especially the upload.
Than latency, Jitter, and Packet loss.

Have you ever done a speed test on your network?!

One recommended link for a test would be: myvoipspeed.visualware.com or myspeed.visualware.com

Please post your results so we can discuss further.

Regards.

I agree with the new settings try these. Bandwidth is not the most important factor latency is. Bandwidth is important but if your round trio latency is 100ms or more, forget it.
