First casualty of merger?

Guys,

Some thoughts for your perusal.

http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/jmp_voip?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd

We're feeling a bit like mushrooms here and would love to know from those in the know how the combined product line will change over the next month or two.

for more speculation about this see.

You will see Inter-Tel offices start to sell the Mitel 3300 ICP and Mitel start to sell the Inter-Tel 5000 for starters. Inter-Tel will continue to sell the Axxess and the 7000. Mitel will continue to sell their products. The 7000 will be the flagship of both companies eventually. I would possibly look to see the 5000 support Mitel phones eventually in a future release.

Otherwise it is business as usual.

I hope so but the problem is that both Inter-Tel and Mitel have a strong dealer base in the UK. We keep running into each other. The last thing I want is a dutch auction at quote stage. If we wanted that we could sell Panasonic or Avaya which has been thrown to all the dealers via distribution.

Interesting thought on the 7000 being a flagship... I don't see that one happening anytime sadly.

The 7000 probably needs a year or so to mature but that is the plan.

The badge on it is not really so important because both Inter-Tel and Mitel have a great name here in the UK. If anyone could have merged with Inter-Tel, I'm glad it was Mitel. Hopefully this is not just a 'taking the competion out' exercise but rather a 'let's get together and create great products that'll storm the market' exercise

The 7000 is binned, apparently it was too similar to the 3300 and didn't really have much sales success in the UK. Single number sales so far and 10 in the pipeline.

Inter-Tel warehousing has also been binned in the UK. All equipment is to come from Mitel warehousing in Wales.

7000 didn't have much of a chance to get above single figure sales, only went GA in Jan this year, and before it was passed over to Dell, it was doing nearly one a month. Not a bad figure considering the market it was aiming for and the fact it was still very new. 7000 is superior to the 3300, just was too new to make a dent. You will see a lot of the 7000 features come on to the 3300 over the next 18 months or so.

Hmm, I work for Inter-Tel as an Engineer, 7000 certified and Inter-Tel has not told us yet that they have binned the 7000. Maybe you have a better source than I do.
