Looking For A Solution
« on: December 14, 2011, 11:57:44 AM »
Hello, I'm looking to change my phone system. I'm a one man operation looking to filter my calls using a phone system/answering system that asks questions of the caller in an effort to better serve the caller and get him the information he needs. The best way to describe this is by example (we are a commercial truck financing company):

"If you need truck financing and have good credit, press one. Otherwise press two"
"If you have additional collateral to pledge, press one. Otherwise press two"
"If the additional collateral has a value equal to what your financing press one. Otherwise press two"

Is there a system available for a small operation like mine? What is a system like this called?

Thank you for your help.

About the least expensive system that was voice mail is the NEC DSX.

Do a google search for NEC DSX, you'll see them.

There might be some type answering machine that can provide multiple choice trees.
You'll need to search for it.

There may be some Computer application out there that can do what your asking about.
I assume you have 1 line.

Do a creative search.

The question I would ask is what would you want the telephone system to do with each of the choices (given that you are a 1 person operation)? Do you have regular telephone lines to your home or are you looking for an IP-based device?

For simplicity, an Avaya Partner ACS R5 or R6 coupled with a Partner Voice Messaging auto attendant/voicemail PCMCIA, could be worth a look. True...Avaya has discontinued the Partner platform...but used 3x8 processors and the PCMCIA voicemail/auto attendant should still be reasonably priced on the secondary market.
If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

To clarify, the purpose of the phone system is to weed out the leads that come in. By the system asking a few questions, what filters out at the other end is a more qualified lead. For example:

"Are you looking for truck financing?" if no "Sorry we can't help you at this time" if yes "Do you have a CDL?" if no, "Sorry we can't help you" If yes, "Do you have a down payment?" and so on. By the time the call is routed to me I have a caller that meets more of my criteria. What system does this?
