Can't use Fax (analog) in system

Hello there!

I'm tech director for a brand new company (just imagine you can do it all from scratch - your way!), but when it comes to phone systems, I'm pretty much of a noob.

Yet, I managed to acquire a telephone system (Siemens HiPath 3750) for the internal communication of our company. It functions well, so no problem there.
The problem however is the fax, which just won't do it.
It is an scan/print/fax all-in-one HP OfficeJet5780 (don't worry: we use a real printer for the real print jobs) , and it very obviously needs an analog port - which we don't have. All phone connections inhouse are CAT6.
So I got a terminal adapter which was supposed to function in a HiPath environment. Yet, after connecting it and connecting the HP to the adapter, I still get the same error message, the HP ALWAYS gives: "no dial tone recognized".

Sending and receiving faxes naturally fails. The extensions including that for the fax place have been set up via remote service, by the Siemens seller himself. All phone extensions function nicely, but incoming faxes end up at the central drop point - my boss - who is naturally all tickles about these funny calls (and retries!) that just beep...

Too bad we really do still need a fax for some customers in this digital age
, else I'd be in a fantastic mood to just let this thing die for good...

Any of you have some idea on how I can get this darn thing to work?

Thanks a lot!
Andy

The entire office was pre-wired, i.e. all wiring was already present. No analog sockets, just patchfields. The phone system has been wired digitally consistently throughout the entire office. According to the manual, the system does provide the possibility for a few analog connections.
These however have not been wired yet. Since I cannot do that sort of wiring myself, and since I did not intend to spend another few hundreds for a system technician to do me one wire just for that bleeding fax, I was hoping to get around this somehow.

Can i get around it?

Edit: said Terminal Adapter is supposed to provide an analog connection in a digital environment, hence this was my approach.

on the 3750 you need a analogue a/b card to have a fax on the system or else get a analogue adapter that connects to the bottom of a standard or advanced telephone and will work as a separate extension.
This terminal adapter is for ISDN. You need to set up ISDN extension on the system ( this requires a ISDN card with a spare port)
Are you using basic rate ISDN or pri or analogue lines?

Hi OBT.. There is a terminal adapter for analog extn which can be plugged onto Optipoint 500 STD/ADV and you can have a analog extn o/p.

Murphy... Can you clarify one thing. Do you have a power adapter supplied along with the terminal adapter? If Yes - I can help you with the prog!

Terminal adaptor here is classed as isdn to analouge converter. I did say he could have a analouge (a/b) module connected to the standard and advanced telephones, I was checking to see what equipment he is using.if he had bri card with spare port he could use isdn adaptor
Good point about PSU

Hi guys,

thanks a lot for your feedback! Sorry for posting back so late, but I'm currently having a hard time with the Exchange vs. Domain Controller...
Jeeez, I'm longing for the day that things keep running stable for at least 10 days in a row...

Anyway:
Yes, the adapter does have a power supply (and yes: it's plugged in )
Yes, the 3750 does have an ISDN group.
No: I have just taken another look and I saw that
a) the adapter is programmed with an MSN
b) there is no ISDN-MSN set up for the fax extension

So I guess it will be worth a retry after configuring an MSN for the fax in the system.
I'll try that once our network shares are back up and I have some time to breathe.

Will let you know 'bout the outcome.

Cheers,
Andy

:sigh:

Outcome: NIL. The MSN didn't change a thing.

This %$§ has annoyed me long enough. My main job is programming and stuff, not growing grey hair over a bloody fax.

Will wait and let the IT whiz do some wiring...

Anyway, thanks a lot for your input, OBT and Rajesharnair!
