Exclamation Unknown IP Address of Elitemail LX

Hello, I am now administering a NEC Electra Elite IPK with a Elitemail LX card. I know the password to login, but can't, there is no documentation from the installing company, and I do not know the IP Address of the card to login through the web console.

I noticed a post that said you could use a DB9 Null cable and Hyperterminal to connect. I have the cable and I have HyperTerminal set to use COM1 and 38400 8-N-1. I have tried Hardware, Xon Xoff and none for flow control, but when I connect all I get is a blank screen.

How do I login? The last post mentioned PuTTY, but I don't know how they are logging in. If someone has the information to login, that would brilliant!

Thanks,

David

To log in with putty you must know the IP address.

Basically it's a telnet into the linux o/s on the vm card.

You should get a 'login:' prompt when using Hypertrminal, not a blank screen. Verify your cable is a null modem. Are you using a true com port or a USB/Com port adapter?

I have the cable connected directly to my serial port on my laptop, hyperterminal is set to COM1 38400 8N1, and I get nothing. I have used the cable in the past to connect to other phone systems, but I don't get any response.

Do the pin settings or jumpers have to be set in a certain way?

Basically I am out of luck with this until I can find the IP address to configure it.

Thanks,

David

Maybe the cable needs to be null. Another option would be to pull the card and write down the MAC address, then use some sort of networking software like AMAC to read the MACs off the network and the corresponding IP address. I could be wrong, but I think there is an option in its configuration to disable telnet/tty access.

progress but not there yet

I tried a different cable today, and still no luck getting to the login screen, but I do get some data now from the VM card when I shut it down (using the shutdown switch) then power it back on. Below is what I get. once it gets here, nothing happens, the voicemail is up and running, I get green, but I can not enter anything. Anymore ideas?

Thanks,
David

I replied to your post on the other forum as well.

Your voicemail is running on MS-DOS, so it's not an LX (Linux), It's just a standard elitemail.

You will need co-sessions software to admin the voicemail system.
