Location: Peoria, IL Rep Power: 0 ![]() | I have a customer with a Partner R.6 with a Partner Messaging R. 7. The customer randomly gets a fax or modem type tone when they answer a phone call, lasts about 1-2 seconds and then they can hear the caller. Not sure if the caller hears it or not. Its (correction) NOT happening on a particular line. I have replaced the processor and reprogrammed the system already. It was only 4 months old before I replaced the processor. They have a 2 port Partner Messaging module and both ports are assigned correctly in the system. I have one computer connected to as an extension for making outgoing calls for its appointment system. But i have even set it only have the 6th line and no ring and still no difference. Fax machine is on a standalone line. Alarm lines and DSL (with filter) are before system and thus should not affect all lines. Im thinking it might be the Partner Messaging that is causing the problem, but I really have no clue. Im 99% sure its not a programming issue. Any ideas?

If it is happening only on a particular extension, check to see that that extension is not accidently programmed into hunt group 7 (#505-7-XX)

Thats what is making it even harder to diagnose. The buiding is brand new and its the first one on the street. So im wondering if its something on the lines making them "hot" and i need to put some time in inline coupler on them to push the db down 2db or so. Hmmm.

Location: Peoria, IL Rep Power: 0 ![]() | This issue has still not been resolved. I tried noise filters and they didnt make a difference. I have disconnected the security and fire alarm lines and no difference. I had SBC come out and test the lines. They couldnt find a problem. I have ruled out that its the phone system though, by crossing a cable from an extension port to a line port and then calling the extention. Did 20 test calls with no problems. Whats weird is that the problem is really really random. Some days it happens 90% of the time, sometimes its only a couple times a day. Ive taken out the voicemail module, still no problem. There is no remote admin card in it either. Again, the problem is happening on all lines and all extensions (all that answer the phone, which is 4).The problem is driving me mad! Anyone have any ideas?

Location: California's Central Coast Rep Power: 6 ![]() | IP Office 403 upgrade This might sound stupid, but are they answering right after the 1st ring? And do they have Caller ID from the telco? 'Cause CID is a short burst of "modem" tone sent between the 1st and 2nd rings, the ring cadence of the Partner does not match the ring cadence of the Telco, and I'be heard it many times in our own office when I'm answering calls and pick up too quick! (In your original message, I was thinking about an INCOMING fax, the CNG "beep", not the "modem" tone of an answering fax. I went back and re-read it, and think this is what it may be)
