Yep!!!!

Hi,

First a preface: I'm pretty green on the Avaya equipment so pls forgive me if this is a lam-o question!

I am trying to change the default Gateway on our Definity 8300. When I do a list ip-interface I show ON a type PROCR in slot 01A00, Code is ?, Sfx is ? and Node Name is 10.10.30.4. The Subnet Mask is 255.0.0.0, the Gateway address is empty, the Net RGN is 1 and the VLAN is 0.

All the documentation I have seen says to go to the change ip-interface screen. I am doing thi through a telnet connection to 10.10.30.4 The problem is that when I do this I have tried:
change ip-interface procr
change ip-interface 10.10.30.4
change ip-interface 01a00
change ip-interface 01A00

When I type this in I get a message that says processor Ethernet feature not assigned.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

bigbadbillyc
(in this case littleconfusedbillywilly)

hmm...

Since I have an "in-skins" processor running communications manager 2.1, I'm not familiar with configuring the S8000 series units...but I can confirm that the command to change the IP information (including gateway) is "ch ip-i XXXXX" XXXXX=the board location.

Don't those units run on Linux? Do you configure the IP Settings in that envinroment? How about the web browser for the system?

Not sure if it is Linux or something more like VXWorks. The interface is command line, but you can access a help screen. Unfortunately help did not help enough

I'm not talking about the OS used for the communications manager software...the servers themselves run on a flavor of Linux (although that may be only for the S8600 units).

Have you tried accessing through a web browser?

Yep,

The Web browser takes me to a nice command line....just like the telnet. The difference is that I can use the mouse to click on the function keys in the friendly web browser window I get rather than having to do an esc-[key press] . So, unfortunately the web interface doesn't seem to buy me anything

hmmm...

I haven't used the web browser since my hardware doesn't support it....

Let's see if anyone else pops up with some suggestions....

You are right about it being linux. Unfortunately the username and login that I use via telnet or the web browser don't seem to allow console access. Now I need to figure out the default password. I tried root as user and no password but no dice!

Have you gone into the web interface click on Maintenance Interface and under <Configure Server> there is a spot where you put in the default gateway.

Check there first.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had been trying the telnet interface with no luck. The maintenance section has big glaring stop signs and asks you to ensure that you have a good bit of information (he says with trepidation) before you go on. I will give it a whirl though (gulp)!
