Hi all,

Just a quick question regarding the installation of a G650 in MC mode to a CSS. All of the documentation I have seen regarding the G650 says it requires a TN2312BP IPSI circuit pack. My maintenance provider said I only need an expansion interface and tone-clock. I have the G650 and tried installing it earlier as a cabinet (not media gateway). I added cabinet and fiberlink, then got as far as synch on my DS1-C before the alarms started. The CSS does not seem to be able to clock the cabinet with a TN2182C or TN768. Upon further looking, those options do not appear under "ch circuitpack" in that cabinet. I do not see an option for a TN2312xx either, though. Currently, I have a TN570D installed in slot 2, a TN2182C in slot 3, a TN771D in slot 4, and a TN1654 in slot 12. Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks!

Christopher

DEF CAPACITY

Hi,
As you mentioned G650,it is a media gateway and IPSI card is required to communicate with the G650.So without G650 I feel it is not possible to proceed ,even if succeded not guarenteed.Hope this will throw some light.

i guess that you need the expansion interface to the CSS for bearer network and an ipsi for the signalling

The architecture of the traditional cabinets of AVAYA is not the same compared to G650's. If your using a traditional cabinet, you might not use an IPSI board; but using a G650 you will definitely use an IPSI board.

Here's what my G-650 configuration looks like. Just remember one very important thing. If the IPSI is not part of the ethernet control network DO NOT CONNECT IT TO EITHER OF YOUR CONTROL NETWORKS (CAJUNs.) It’s a long and ugly story but, I’ll make it short. Basically when AVAYA installed my G-650 the technician and I both assumed that the IPSI needed to be connected to control LAN-A. You know what they say about assumptions!! HA!! Well everything worked fine for 58 days. Apparently every 50 or so days the S8700 server audits all of the IPSIs serial numbers and the license file. Well it saw the IPSI in the G-650 with information that it didn’t like. A foreign IP-Address and a foreign address on the front of the card. So the server didn’t like what it saw and it went into license error mode. It went into license error mode because the serial number on my Golden IPSI 01A01 some how got changed. Denver said that the only way that could have happened is if I had changed out the card. Well, I didn’t, in fact I don’t have any spares. Anyway my switch was all screwed up for two days and Tier 3 and 4 still can’t confirm exactly what happened. All we know is that by replacing the Golden IPSI and unplugging the LAN portion of the G-650 fixed the problem. SO BEWARE!!!

From what I understand if you want to have that IPSI part of the ethernet control you need to have another. For my setup as an example 10A01 and I would need another G-650 stacked on top of that one 10B and an IPSI in 10B01 then those two IPSIs could be ethernet controllers. Also, the reason the IPSI is in my 10A01 right now is for packet-bus interface, Archangel TDM-bus interface, Tone-Clock functionality and maintenance-board interface for communication with the PN’s maintenance board.
