Nortel Norstar Install and Service Tech

Greetings from the world of Nortel. I know not your strange world of g3's
and Definity's. I have come to recieve your great knowledge , good people
of Avayaland. Seriously, i have done a few MACS here and there and some limited
programming on the old consoles. (list STA etc.....). I have to install an 8 port Analog
card in a fairly new (2 yrs old ?) g3 or definity or what the heck ever they were calling thier box that year. Question 1) Is this hot swap ? ie. can I put this in any consecutive
slot without bringing anything down or disabling anything ? Question 2) Does this
card need to be "software enabled" (wake up call, initialize ?) What are the commands.
Is there a "Hardware Inventory" command so I can see if the system sees the card.
Better yet if everything I'm guessing is way off please tell me what you'd do to test this.
THANKSABUNCH. :P

TN Corruption

Nice of you to come visit another world.
Yes you can put that card into "almost" any slot. Unless somewhere along the line it changed, The designator strip is color coded, You will notice that the memory, processor, etc are labeled with a whitish background, and then there is a pretty purple area where you trunk and station packs reside. As long as its purple you can stick the card in. No need to power down, it can go in hot. Make note of the slot number. The card should be automatically recognized, from the terminal do a list config st and look for the what shows up in the slot where you put it, if all is well it should list look something like :
01A04 ANALOG LINE TN742 000017 U U U U U U U U
or sopmething similar, you will also see the other cards for stations. For a complete inventory do a list config all.

Midnight Routines

On the Definity you can put most types of cards, DS1, Digiital Cards, Analog, CO in most slots. It will ususaly say something like Processor or Tone Clock etc with a board number. The DS1, Digital, Analog etc cards just have a A slot # on them with no descriptor.
Just insert the analog card into the slot and once you have done that go to the terminal and type in the following:
list config board Board #(eg 1c07) and then it will show you the ports. Your don't need to configre anything in software. Let me know how that goes, if you have any trouble go a ahead and send me an email at jamesestes@yahoo.com and I can call you if you need some help.

Hope that helps.

RCAP in LD 16

I am glad it worked out. Mayber there are different colors, my processor cards, memory is "whitish" but the where the trunk, station cards etc reside is a dark, sort of charcoal color on my G3R.

Well anyway, I am glad that you looked like you knew what you doing! What is that saying, "Fake it until you make it"

Good job Mark.

James, how about this saying....
If you can’t dazzle them with your brilliance, baffle them with your BS.
Happy holidays to all.
