Power Down Definity G3R

Hello all,

Any help would be greatly appreciated. We have a customer that has about 200 Nortels and one Avaya.. Anyway, the one Avaya happens to be in my area and I am a Nortel tech. I have been asked to power the system down for about 24 hours. I was wondering if there is a correct procedure for powering a Definity G3R down and back up. I apologize for the lack of information, thats all the info I have been given. I hate to go in there and just start yanking power cords.. I already told my boss I would do it but if something goes wrong...I'm running!

Thanks Again!

First log into the switch and type "save translations". If you have two processors type "save Translations both". Now type "back disk full" add the word "both" to the end of the command if you have two processors. Now you need to find out if you have any TN750B annoucement boards in the PBX. Type "list config all" and look for the above boards. If you have any, you can save the announcements off one of them by typing "save ann" but there may be more because it depends on the software release of the PBX what the actual command is, most typically the full command will be "save ann from (board location you found when you listed the config)". If you have more than one then the announcements will be lost on the other board.

If when you listed the config you found TN750C boards, then you have no problem. Those boards will retain their announcements in eeproms.

Once this is done open the front doors of the cabinets and look at the bottom. Depending on the PBX release you will see a two pole circuit breaker or a panel that either is hinged or snaps off. Behind that panel you will see the circuit breakers. You can turn the cabinets off in any order.

When you turn the cabinets on, the last cabinet you turn on will be the cabinet that the processor(s) live in. This cabinet is labeled on the front as PPN. Rebooting takes 20-30 minutes depending on what it has in it.

Is there a voice mail attached to this PBX? If it is an Intuity Audix this will be roughly how to do it, roughly because they are many different software releases of that and each is slightly different.

Log in and follow this path (yours might be different) customer services adminstration/system management/system control/shutdown system. Turn it back on when ready and it will link back up automatically.

Good luck.
