audix having to reboot once a day now...what do Faults mean?

hello,
we have an At&T Audix (sd-1E601-01) voicemail server connected to our Definity PBX server. Both of the devices have been running since the early 1990's. Every so often the Audix will stop functioning and we have to reboot it to get it running again. The last couple of days the frequency of it "going down" has been once/twice a day. I've put here the alarms that I've recorded from it:

9/23/2007 2:11am fault 74 level 0 unit 117 device 0
9/24/2007 9:01am fault 250 level 2 unit 32 device 0
9/24/2007 12:01pm 74 0 117 0
9/24/2007 12:32pm 250 2 32 0
9/24/2007 20:50pm 74 0 117 0
9/24/207 8:44am 250 2 32 0

I don't know what these Faults, levels, units, device numbers mean or correspond to. Could someone (1) explain what these Alarms mean (2) what can we do to prevent these alarms from happening? Which part in the Audix box is failing?

thanks in advance,
david

This is an R1 Audix which was state of the art 15 years ago. I didn't think there were any of these still in use. Device 0 is the boot drive and it is failing.

Finding an identical drive with the AT&T startup code on it will be very difficult today. This was a new machine when a large hard drive was 20 Megabytes. If you could find a drive you would then need to load it with the tapes that you received with the Audix.

I think you need to look at replacing this Audix, trying to keep this ancient voice mail running will end up costing you more than buying a new one.

There is a Intuity with a Prologix for $899 on ebay if U want to buy used. It uses Clan integration, which is not as reliable as x25, but is pretty close.
Be aware that in most cases when U buy used U don't buy the software except if U are buying the company that owned the system.

Beware of the newest products from Avaya. They have a tendency to send out products to market before they get all of the bugs out and require U do fix the problems they they do find later on.

Be aware that when you buy a used PBX from ebay (or any other source) that all you are getting is the hardware, any software licensing the PBX had will not transfer. It must be bought new.

As long as you never have to call Avaya (or a BP) for support and the configuration of that machine matches what you need, you are ok. But if you need help with a problem or want to turn on more features, you will be spending some coin just to get it licensed and registered before you get any help.
