Decomissioning an EPN

Hello everyone,

I just signed up here.

I am looking for assistance in removing an EPN expansion cabinet (2 carriers) from my phone system.

I have removed all the line cards from the cabinets, and have an Expansion Interface (TN570C), Maintenance (TN775C), tone clock, and tone detector remaining.

I did some research and I need to remove the fiber link, and the circuit packs.

Is that all that is needed? If so, in what order do I remove them?

Any assistance is appreciated.

Thank you!

Brian

I could give you several pages of general directions on how to remove an EPN but you might get lost, so let me ask some questions first. The process is different depending on what kind of Definity you have and how large it is.

Is your Definity a G3i or a G3r? How many port networks does it have? This is not the same as how many cabinets you have because you can have more than one port network in a cabinet. Last, what is the port network number you want to remove.

Answer these questions and I will tell you exactly what to do, step by step.

I appreciate the reply, but I could not remove the fiber-link without the craft login apparently, so I had to have Avaya do it (for a minimum of $340 ).

For the record though, it's a G3r. We had 4 port networks. I removed #4

Thanks again.

Did the Avaya tech remove everything including the TN573 in the Switch Node Carrier?

No, the TN573 is still there, and gave a major alarm. I busy'd the board and reseated it, now I have a warning.

Do I remove the TN573 in the Switch Node Carrier?

Removing an EPN consists of removing the fiber and cabinet in software, disconnecting the fiber, unseating the TN573 and removing it in translations. Your switch will complain about having a TN573 in there doing nothing.

Unseat the card then type "change cir", if you do not enter a cabinet number cabinet 1 will come up by default. Page down to the E carrier and remove the TN573.

To remove the cabinet type "change cir 4" then go to each carrier and remove the cards remaining (if any). Then type "remove cab 4", on the next screen press enter.

Now you can physically turn the cabinet off and remove the fiber patch cord and transcievers.
