programming ISDN trunk group

When programming an ISDN trunk group form in Avaya pbx for toll free inbound service only - what is a good standard to follow when populating the 'Direction' field and 'Service Type' field. I've been setting Direction as two way and Service Type as cbc. Calls are coming in okay so but not sure if some other selections for these fields would be more appropriate. Thanks

Two way or one way is not going to have any effect on the trunk group if you are using it for incoming only. CBC means that you are allowing the call to determine the service you are using if you have several choices, also not really a factor when you are only receiving calls on this span.

I would probably have chosen public-ntwrk as the service type myself. If these are AT&T 800 numbers, you might have been able to choose mega800. If these are International 800 calls, then possibly i800 would be a choice. There is really no one best answer, that's why there are so many choices.

However, the basic guideline should be, if it is not broken then don't fix it.

Another isdn question if you can help. We have 5 digit dialplan. For tollfree inbound on isdn, telco says they can deliver calls multiple ways. Ex: for 800-222-2565 they said they could delete 6 prefix 2 + 2565. Then in pbx call handling we could delete those 5 digits and insert any 5 digit vdn OR they could delete all 10 digits or they could send 4 digits. What is the purpose of telco sending digits? When would you want them to send a 'prefix' plus digits?
I'm trying to set a standard for tollfree inbound but there are so many options. What would you ask telco to send for toll free inbound to a 5 digit dialplan. Thanks

On an Avaya PBX I have never seen any reason to send all the digits, have them send just the five digits you need. That way you do not need to manipulate the incoming call at all, just use the incoming five digits for your VDN.

What would happen if I have multiple toll free nbrs riding 1 PRI-each provisioned with their own dedicated channels-each TF# in its own trunk group and telco deletes all 10 digits for each TF#? Can I still just insert my 5 digit vdns and route the calls? Thanks-its been a learning experience for sure.

Telco can't delete all ten digits because you will never get the call. What they do is use DNIS to route calls from toll free numbers. Let us say you have number 800-234-5678. Tell your local vendor that when a call comes in directed to that number that they are to redirect it to the DID that you want the call to come in on. That DID is where you assign the VDN for call handling.

If you want each toll free number to be answered in a different way, have the CO give each one its' own DID coming to you. That way you can set it up to do anything you want.

One more question. On isdn trunk group form - service type - has multiple options. What is the difference between choices mega800 and megacom? Thanks
