Call Forwarding

I was asked to set up call forwarding to an external number where there will no longer be a physical set and am stuck on what steps are needed.

I can set up a CF button on a set, but can only forward to internal extensions. What COS option needs to be changed in order to accomplish this? Thanks!

An extension needs to be in a Class of Service that doesn't restrict Call Forwarding Off-Net.

Thanks. Question - is there a way do this without an actual set? The user will be working from home and I would like to reuse his 6416 set.

  • X-port the extension or change type to AWOH.

2. To use a remote phone number as a coverage point, you need to define the number in the Remote Call Coverage Table and then use the remote code in the coverage path. Do “ch cov rem” command.
  • Create a coverage path and type the remote code in a Coverage Point field #1. Make sure both “Inside Call” and “Outside Call” fields set to “y” for “ALL” in the Coverage Criteria section.
  • Assign this coverage path to the extension.

This is a standard remote coverage to an external number that does not monitor the call once it leaves your system.

Call forwarding and cover remote will both do what you want but cover remote is the easiest to administer and neither one requires a physical phone.

Cover remote is easier to administer because if they want to go to a different number all you need to do is change the destination on the cover remote table.

If you are using call forward you can change the direction with a phone that has console permissions but you will have to temporarily assign a port to the redirected station to change it, you can't change an x-ported station.

Question

Hey Marty,

Can we do call-forwarding on an extension without a physical phone with port as IP instead of using a coverage path? If 'Yes', any ideas how we can accomplish this?
