Unhappy Available Ports

New to the board - looking for very basic info for our G3SIV6.

We've had several admin's over the years (12 year old switch) and documentation has definitely suffered. What's the easiest way to determine all "Disconnected" ports - from Digital cards?

Please and thank you!

The easiest way to find unused ports on all boards, station and trunk, is type the command "list config all". Any ports that do not return a number are unused.

If you are looking for assigned ports that do not have a phone attached, type the command "display error" and look for any phones that return error code 513. Type "status station xxxx" if you get "disconnected" in answer, the PBX does not see a phone at the far end.

If you are trying to find installed but not used phones, the only thing you can do is walk around and find them.

Thank You Marty.

I believe that the Display Errors command is just what I was looking for - some consolidated list of stations that might be programmed, but not physically connected.

To elaborate a little, the 513 error code says that the PBX does not see a ringer at the far end. Do not remove all devices that return a 513 error because some equipment does not have a ringer in it. The most common devices are modems and FAX machines.

To keep those from showing up type "change station xxxx" and on the right side of the first page you see a field called "test", put an "n" in that field and those devices will stop showing up on the error list.

To narrow your search for installed but not used phones, you can use the Call Accounting System if you have one in place. Just run some reports to see if any extensions do not receive or make calls for long time.
