Rep Power: 0 ![]() | hi all, I work as a network administrator and somehow i've been given the task of looking after the PBX. I know very little. I know it's a Definity cause it says so on the box. there's a terminal attached to it and i've seen the command line prompt. My question: what are the commands to get the model and release of the definity? thanks. Kolokothi

On the screen that asks you what terminal type you want to use is the info about what model and version you have. Another way is to type "list config software" after you are in and this will tell you more info. However, the first option is more useful to you right now until you know your way around the machine because on the left it will tell you what model and release you are running at and on the right will be the software release loaded in the PBX and might be higher than you are licensed to use. You can also type "display sys cust" and you will see a listing of all the software in the PBX and whether you have permission to use it. To give you a visual idea, following is a general idea of the Definity. The smallest Definity's are G3csi and it will be one to three gray cabinets hanging on a wall. The Definity Prologix is the latest version of G3csi and is about 4 feet square and a foot deep. Before that was a smaller G3csi that swung out from the wall and it was about four feet long and a foot high and wide. Next up from that is the G3si and sits on the floor. It is about three feet wide, two feet deep and 18" high. Up to four of these cabinets can be stacked on each other and you can have as many as three stacks of varying heights. Next is the G3i and the first cabinet for this is the size of a refrigerator and the additional cabinets can be a mix of big cabinets and G3si cabinets with a max total of three groupings. Top of the line is the G3r which has the same size first cabinet as the G3i and the same mix of cabinet styles up to 32 distinct groupings. Your software release will run from version 3 (very old) to version 11 (last one generally offered for the Definity). I have run into people that said they had release (version) 12 on their Definity, but I have not seen it myself. Once you are in the system, your best friend will be the help button on the terminal keyboard starting with every command available to you and every option available for that command once you have started. __________________ Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup. Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Thanks Marty. From the visual description i'd say it's a G3csi. It's two grey cabinets hanging from the wall. I'm afraid to log the console out just yet in case i can't get back in I guess this now elevates my status from complete to newbie to at least knowing what hardware we've got. The management want me to report from the PBX. More specifically they want to monitor our telesales dept and so want to know how many calls etc have been made from each extension. There is a PC attached to the PBX, via a serial or parallel cable (I haven't checked) that i believe used to run a piece of software called Callmaster. Unfortunately we had a powercut some time ago and when the PC rebooted that software refuses to run (asking for a licence key). I'd like to know how i can get some reporting software and whether configuring it will be easy? How does this software work: does it constantly poll the PBX for information or does the PBX store such stats? How many days/weeks/months worth of stats does the PBX hold? Can i change how much info is stored? A lot of questions I know. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Chris

What you are looking for is call accounting software and from your description I would guess that Callmaster is that. The license key could be a string you need to type in or a dongle hanging off the back (usually the printer port). No reason to buy a new program since you have one but you need to get it restarted. Look for any documentation related to the software and call that company's support number, explain your problem to them. The PBX can buffer call traffic but it has a limited capacity and will overwrite the oldest data when the buffer is full, call accounting data is dumped to the computer automatically. It is that computer's job to store and collate the data into whatever format you need. To find out if the PBX is configured to collect call data, type "status cdr" and if it is programmed you will get a response saying the link is up or down. Probably down in your case. To find out what your login is type "status login" and the login with a "*" in front of it is yours. Once you know your login name (and if you do not know the password for that login) I strongly recommend that you call Avaya and have them reset the password. If you have a power problem, you will be logged out automatically and you won't be able to get back in. Before calling Avaya, type "list login" and look at your login. If it does not say "super-user", you want them to change that also. Avaya will ask you for your IL (installation location) before they help you. If you do not know it, explain your situation and they will help you. Another thing to look at before calling is your product ID. Type "display sys maint", the product ID is at the top of the page. They will charge you for this but if you get logged out for any reason, and don't know the password, you will have to call them anyway. Now it is an emergency and they will still charge you. __________________ Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
