System printer HELP!!!

Hello all,

I am trying to replace my old Oki Microline dot matrix system printer connected via a 7400A data module with a new OKI B4350 Laser Printer with a RS232C interface and I can't get it to work. I have tried every combination on my printer with 9600 Baud with both 7 and 8 data bits and even, odd,no parity and everytime I try to print something the printer keeps giving a FRM ERR message on the display. Does anyone know how the 7400A should be configured to work with my OKI laser? I currently have the printer set to 9600 Baud,7 datbits, and no parity. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

This is definitely old school and I don't have anything here at home to help with precise directions. You can scroll through the options in the 7400A and see how they are set and change them if necessary. You have to push two buttons on the front of the 7400A to get to its' setup menu. I don't recall off hand what they are but they are marked on the front of the 7400A.

I have hooked up serial laser printers before to the data module with no problem so it will work.

It will be Monday before I can get to my notes to see if there was anything different between tractor and laser printer, but I don't think there is. Just make sure the options in the 7400A match the printer.

Thanks Marty.....I would appreciate any help. I thought it would not be a big deal. I didn't mess with the 7400A at all and figured that as long as my printer had a serial port that it would work. I'm thinking maybe my serial port on my printer is not working properly. Do you think if I connected a laptop comm port to the data module and then sent a print job to the system ptinter that the information should come across the hyperterminal screen that would prove that my data module settings are good. What do you think?

Serial settings are very picky, if the data module and the printer do not match nothing will happen. Yes, you can put a laptop on with hyperterminal set to receive data but the same rules apply. Everything must match. Speed, parity, stop bits, etc. Leave the setting in the PBX to printer.

Now that I think about it, I believe the speed for the old Oki tractor printer was 1200.
