Displays - Plasmas vs LCDs vs LED

Hi All,

Lately I got asked a question from one of my customers about the pros and cons of Plasma, LCD and LED displays; hence this thread.

What do you people think? Points to consider:

* burn-in's, ghosting etc...
* cost comparision
* average life cycle
* advantages vs disadvantages

And what about data projectors?

Projectors tend to have a very short lamp life and the replacement lamps tend to be pricey.

Plasma screen burn isn't as bad as it used to be, but it still happens
Projectors are nice, but bulbs can be expensive
LCD...No big issues, just dead pixels. It can be annoying if it's in the right spot.
No idea on LED
Have you considered DLP??? I like it enough that my new TV is a 61" DLP HDTV. No screen burn, no dead pixels. Bulb should last 10,000 hours.

A newspaper article I saw this weekend concluded that considering all issues including price that the regular old CRT was still the best value.

Wouldn't a lot of that be down to the falling price of the CRT though as manufacturers have shifted to plasma and LCD screens the distributors are trying to shift the stocks of CRT so that they don't get stuck with the old technology.

LED is a waste of time and money. Having cost compared LED versus web based (and therefore demonstrable on LCD and plasma screens) the costs of the LED display was horrendous especially considering you have to buy the display as well. Also LED displays are so horrendously basic in what they can display and how.

As for plasma versus LCD I am an LCD fan for the fact it has no major drawbacks and has a much clearer screen especially from an angle in a bright environment (little reflection).

The loss of pixels is valid although there is no great reason for pixel loss and if you lose one or two on a screen viewd over a distance you won't see it.
