Not sure with 4.2 (I have 3.0), but you should be able to use the
SEND REQUEST
and
GET RESPONSE commands.

As an example (for the NTP's):

SEND REQUEST <application_ID> [<variable> |
<list_of_variables>]



SEND REQUEST application_ID name

GET RESPONSE application_ID account_status


Then getting and interperting the response:



SEND REQUEST application_ID account_number

GET RESPONSE application_ID client_ID,

account_status
