Location: Dallas, Texas Rep Power: 5 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Is Flash the way to go? It seems pretty convenient, You grab a flash card for your camera, then put it on your MP3 player, then slide it in your mobile phone for both pictures and music? I think going flash may be in the future, who needs a 10LB IPOD when you can use a small flash card? I guess once the capacity starts to reach 20-50 gigs or more people will take it seriously. Fitting that much info on a little card that can be moved from device to device seems like a much better solution then a hard drive type device? Don't you think? =================== SanDisk claims largest capacity MP3 player Mark LaPedus EE Times (08/21/2006 9:15 AM EDT) ![]() SAN JOSE, Calif. — In a move to expand its systems business, SanDisk Corp. unveiled what the company claims is the world's largest capacity, flash-based MP3 player. The flash-memory product company also cut the prices on its older MP3 player models. Priced at $249.99, the new Sansa e280 is the latest MP3 player in SanDisk's flagship e200 series. The new 8-gigabyte (GB) device features a microSD expansion slot, allowing expansion to 10-GB of music — or 2,500 songs — with an optional SanDisk 2-GB microSD card. In conjunction with the rollout, SanDisk (Milpitas, Calif.) has lowered its prices on the entire Sansa e200 line of products, including the existing 2-, 4- and 6-GB models. Current pricing on the Sansa e200 product line includes a 2-GB flash-based player for under $140. Sandisk competes in the MP3 player market against Apple, Creative, Samsung, among others. ======================= __________________ -=Welcome to PBXInfo=- -Become a PBXInfo Supporter -Get more PM Space, Profile Picture, a Signature -Add yourself to Pbxinfo's Frappr -Find Nortel Software

The prices for the capacity are also coming down quite rapidly at the moment, I've just purchased a 1GB XD card for my camera and including delivery didn't cost quite £30 ($50).

Rep Power: 3 ![]() | I'd wish vendor could come to improve their capacity as soon as possible, since many of the devices & systems(pabx) use flash cards. But also they must improve the quality. Known some guys who bought a 512mb, after several months, it is not usable anymore. Tried to recover it, but my card reader can't read it.

Location: @home Rep Power: 8 ![]() | The only problem I have found with the flash memory is when you get up over 256Mb in a camera there is more of a delay when it writes to the card. I assume it has to do with speed of the memory as well but I did notice a difference going from 256 to 512 then a bigger difference going to a 1gb card. Otherwise, I love the idea. I used to travel with my PC so I could dump the pictures off and make room for more. Now I don't have to think about it, just change cards.

Location: San Diego, CA Rep Power: 6 ![]() | I would also like to see one type of flash card only. There are half a dozen different types now. My camera has one type, my GPS device has another, my wife's camera has another type, and her MP3 player has a fourth type. __________________ Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup. Location: @home Rep Power: 8 ![]() | That is a problem with the multiple types of cards. My camera takes the Compact Flash, my wifes camera and our PDAs take the SD and my PSP uses the Sony memory sticks. I went out and bought a cheap all in one card reader for my desktop just so I did not have to worry about trying to transfer data from one to the other.

Location: Hainaut Rep Power: 0 ![]() | I love the idea, but MSYoung is right: the problem is that they come up with a new format every year, even in the same "family" of cards (like: SD, MiniSD, microSD, SDHC, what then?), so first I'm forced to choose a device that will accept the same family of cards as my other devices (this can be vicious: for example you have to buy all-Sony or no-Sony, but Sony is a case of its own...), and then I'm forced to buy again a bunch of cards when a new device switches to a new format (example: when I bought my new PDA-phone, I had to buy new microSD cards to be able to swap them between my PDA-phone, my camera, my PCs and my car audio system, etc.).
