| Unwanted outgoing calls. I'm planning a new VoIP phone system, at the moment its a toss up between Avaya S8500 and Cisco. Cisco's main component runs on Windows as far as I can read, which makes me nervous. Can people share their experience with Cisco Callmanger, how easy is it to manage, how stable is it? Any good articles on reliability that you could point me to would be great. Thanks Patrick | ||||||||

| If you are looking at Avaya, depending on the size of your site(s), I would suggest looking at S8300 rather than the S8500. As long as you are under 450 users that is the best deal going. It runs on Linux and offers onboard voicemail. Great value.. 700+ features. Adam. | ||||||||

| TCP / IP Is it acceptable to have to reboot your phone and VM system weekly to apply patches. You should be very afraid. Cisco is doing its best to set phone systems back 100 years. And you think Avaya support is bad. Wait till you have to deal with Cisco on a Call Manager. | ||||||||

In the interest of being objective, Network World Fusion just published an article on 5/24/04 testing security between Avaya and Cisco. http://www.networkworldfusion.com/re...psecurity.html I recommend checking out NWF site as well, click "Convergence" under Research Centers on the upper left side. Opinions and white papers lean towards whoever sponosored them, but test results are good. http://www.nwfusion.com/ Another site to check out is Webtorials, you have to register and it is a "sponsored" site, but again, there is objective test info to be found there as well. http://www.webtorials.com/index.htm Ofcourse, I say go with Avaya

I have yet to be impressed by Cisco voice.

If you want a Router go to the best router Company (Cisco), if you want a voice system go to the best (Avaya) Cisco only implements about 10 voice features from a set of about 360 and does them badly at that. Cheers Schooner
