A little help for a newbie (Local directory@CME+CUE+7940)

Hi all,

I would like to ask for some help.

I have a Cisco CME installed at a clients’ office.
It’s a CME 4.0 + Cisco Unity Express +5 Cisco 7940/7960 IP phones.

My users want to use some kind of directory for dialling frequently used numbers.

Well, here it goes, my probably stupid question:

Browsing trough the phone menu in the Directory section I cannot find the “Local Directory” I have only missed, received and outgoing calls.
I have the directory configuration in the telephony-service section:telephony-service directory last-name-first
I tried to add a directory entry in the router config.
No result…

Am I missing something?
Is local directory the solution I really need?
Some suggestions?
Thanks a lot.

Regards,
Lino Prahov

Take a look at this site:
cciev.wordpress.com

they have many CME help pages, very raw stuff but it should help. There is also a very very good Cisco Press book "Cisco IP Communications Express: CallManager Express and Cisco Unity Express" It is with the newer Purple binding not the old Green bindings.

To make a speed dial, under each ephone, you cay specify speed-dial command. This entry uses up the next available line on the phone

To make a fast dial, use fast-dial command. This shows up on the Personal Speed Dial selection from Directories button of ip phone.

To create local directory entries, just define names using name command under each ephone-dn.

To create additional (upto 100) entries for external or internal phone numbers, use directory-entry command. This also shows up in Local directory.

To disable Local directory services use command “no service local-directory”
