safety recall

I've backed up our Nortel Voicemail Configuration to 7 diskettes. Is there a way to backup the MICS Programming so if it died I could restore the settings to a new system?

Also is it possible to backup the voicemail (messages) using a 3rd party utility.

Is this ? hard

Sure, there is a great way to backup the MICS programming. Put a RAD on it and use the Backup/restore utility that is part of the Remote ProgrammingTools. Works great, and is quick. What software release do you have in your MICS? The newest map files are now out to use on the new 6.0 software. Let us know what you have and we can let you know what you need. For your second question, I have never tried any 3rd party utilities, but maybe someone else has tried some.

Problems dialing out on new route

We have a RAD that I let our support company (the guys that programmed the PBX)dial into to fix things. I'll check out the SW version on the MICS when I get into work today. We got this system in July 2001 and haven't changed any hardware or software on it since, but have changed the programming a lot.

I've only backed up the VM Config & the SEKUR/Capabilities file (did last night).

Are there any classes I could take to learn how to better maintain this system?

Yes, plenty of classes you can take to learn more about your system....

But, before I went and spent the money on training, I would read the books, Norstar is not that hard to learn.

Good Luck!

Cool. I have all of the manuals that came with our system when it was installed, however before this I had no experience with PBX' at all.

I do what I consider basic administration of the phone system, but am looking to get a little more knowledgeable about the infrastructure of the MICS.

Like I said I'm a System Administrator, but the MICS is something I know well enough to know when I need to call someone for help.

My support company dials into the RAD. Is there any way to backup the system configuration from my local network. I know the system has a NIC that I've connected to via Norstar Voicemail Manager (which I don't use much, as it didn't seem to do too much)

I'm pretty sure I have a Remote Utilities CD, however I've never used it. I imagine this is what my support guys use to dial into the RAD. yes?

Calls myteriously going to overhead system.

I have Remote Utilities 8.1, okay?

In the System Programming menu -> Maintenance -> System Version, I see "SP: 30NcG04 NAT"

The manuals I have say MICS 4.0 & NVM 4.0.

music on hold implementation

The 8.1 will work for your system. 9.0 supports 5.0, and the newest, 9.1 supports the new 6.0 software.
Your best bet is to install the 8.1 Remote utilities on an old slow Win95, or Win98 machine.
You will need to know the RAD password from your support people. In fact, I would recommend checking with them. They probably already have a backup of your system. You do not want to void any warranties that you may have with them.
