I was wondering has anyone had any luck with a cordless phone that will work well with a MICS? I know about the 7406 but just the M model which I do not think much of. I need the phone to give me a message waiting indicator, I know I must use an ATA to convert D to A I was just wondering what people where doing for an application like this.

Thanks

I have had no problems with the T7406 sets. They give a msg indication via the red LED at the base of the ant.

Spectralink works well with the Norstar. It cost much more and you'll need to install an antenna/s. Antenna units can be arranged like mini cell sites around your customer's business.

Problem with Elan

If your just looking for one or two phones I would go with the T7406. It is a good phone and MUCH more reliable than the predecessor M7410 (which most companies won't even warranty anymore)

You can run 3 T7406's off the one base unit, with a 300 foot reach.

However, if you are looking for many cordless sets, the Spectralink is the way to go. Those things are great!
The SpectraLink can do most of the same functions a desktop set can do, and does have a message indicator within its display.

The Companion was discontinued quite a while ago. The replacement, called the Kirk network, should be available soon. But the cost of this new system wouldn't justify one or two cordless sets.

The T7406 sets do work great, as long as you mount the base at least 6-8 feet off the ground, and centralize the antenna based on the required area of coverage.

Two other key notes are that it has the advantage of connecting up to 3 cordless units off one base, with different DN's. And that from a customer's point of view, it looks and functions like a normal digital desk set.

Also, if you going to use two different bases, use the dip switch settings to set the first base to the high frequency and the second base to the low frequency to avoid conflicts between bases. The bases should be separated by at least 5-6 feet apart to give maximum coverage.

If you follow these guide lines, outlined in installation guide, you should have no problems.

I submit that the T7406 affair is a very good cordless unit provided that the installer ahere to Nortel's stringent installation requirements without undue deviation. It has been my experience that most installers foolishly dismiss its finite installation details out of hand. The net result of such skullduggery is a poor performing animal and an unsatisfied customer. Base station deployment is the key! Testing one's effort thereafter is the proof.

Should one opt for a cordless/ATA marriage, be advised. Using the call park feature on a given KSU/software combo - one must be aware of where such a call is parked whence taking into account the ATA'a involvement in the matter. Things will be different.

Understanding is everything.
